History / Biographical Note

Biographical / Historical

Anna Robertson Brown Lindsay was an author and educator. She attended Wellesley College, Oxford University, and the University of Pennsylvania, becoming the first woman to earn a Ph. D. from the latter in 1892. She then became a professor at Wellesley College. She served as a trustee of the college from 1906 to 1918 and was a member of the Alumnae Association graduate council. Lindsay wrote a number of theological books, including The Warriors, The Spiritual Care of a Child, and Hymn in War-Time. Lindsay married Samuel McCune Lindsay in 1896.
