Pressman was known for investigative reporting in politics and social issues. He began his broadcasting career at WRCA radio in 1954; he moved to WRCA's television in 1956. He anchored New York's first morning news program – a five minute show on WRCA that later became 10 minutes. He came to fame in the 1960s, coverering such major stories as the New York City blackout, the riots at the Democratic Convention in Chicago in 1968, civil strife in Newark and New York, the Mayoral campaigns for Abraham Beame, William F. Buckley, John Lindsay, and the entrance of Robert F. Kennedy into New York politics.

Pressman won many awards throughout his long career: 11 Emmy Awards; the Edward R.
