Dr. Michael Nelson was a psychiatrist who worked with Amnesty International on a number of issues relating to psychological abuse, torture, and the death penalty, and medical ethics. Along with Phyllis Taylor, RN, he created the Amnesty International Medical Capacity Committee, a group of health professionals who worked to prevent torture and the abuse of psychiatry. The committee developed protocols for the examination of torture victims, methods to detect evidence of alleged torture, and treatments for victims.
