The Chiu Chung-Wei correspondence consists of outgoing correspondence and telegrams drafts by Chiu and incoming correspondence relating to the Acting President of the Republic of China, Li Zongren, dating from 1949 to 1950 and the move of the Chinese Republican government to Taiwan.

Chiu Chung-wei (pinyin: Qiu, Changwei; Wade-Giles: Chiu, Chung-wei, Chiu, Chang-wei; Chinese: 邱昌渭; courtesy name: Yiwu, 毅吾) was born in Hunan, 1898. He attended Changsha Yali High School (長沙雅禮中學). He began studied abroad and obtained his B. A. from Pomena College in 1923. He later received his M.A. in political science in 1924 and Ph.D in philosophy from Columbia University in 1928. After returning to China, he was the departmental head of political science at the Peking University and also taught at the Northwest University, Tsinghua University, and the Sun Yat-sen University. In 1932, he served as the Chief Secretary of Intelligence at the Nanking headquarter (國民政府外交部情報司司長) responsible for the promotion of communication and cultural activities. In 1936, he became the Director of the Guangxi Education Department (廣西省政府委員兼教育廳廳長) and later the Head of Guangxi provincial Civil Administration (廣西省政府民政廳廳長) in 1939. In 1942, he was the Deputy Secretary General of the Central Design Bureau (中央設計局副秘書長), the Representative at the People's Fourth National Council (國民參政會參政員) in 1945, and the committee member of the Legislative Yuan (立法院立法委員) in 1948. From 1949 to 1950, he was the Presidential Secretary (總統府秘書長) of Li Zongren. Chiu died in 1956 at the age of 58.
Li Zongren (Wade-Giles: Li, Tsung-jen; Chinese: 李宗仁; courtesy name Delin, 德鄰; born: August 13, 1890 - death: January 30, 1969) was a prominent Guangxi warlord and Kuomintang (KMT) military commander during the Northern Expedition, Second Sino-Japanese War and Chinese Civil War. He served as the Vice-President (1948) and the Acting President of the Republic of China under the 1947 Chinese Constitution from 1949 to 1950.
