These primarily document Mitchell's career as a dancer with the New York City Ballet, as well as his later professional activities. Later materials include items for events in which Mitchell was directly involved as a presenter, speaker, or in some other capacity, or where he is featured in the program in some way, for example, programs that include historical notes. This subseries also include materials for awards and honors presented to Mitchell, and for exhibits, panels and other events where Mitchell is the main focus.

There are also records related to Mitchell's work on the Comptroller's Cultural Advisory Council (New York City) and the School of American Ballet Board.
