Series II: Hetty MacLise, 1950s-2010

Series II: Hetty MacLise includes writing, artwork, and correspondence produced by, and legal documents, ephemera, and photographs of or belonging to, Hetty MacLise. The series covers her early life in England and then on the hippie trail, the span of her relationship with Angus (and the couple's adventures in various countercultural scenes and movements), and the three decades by which she survived him. Some material relating to Angus' and Hetty's son, Ossian, can also be found in this series.

Subseries II.1: Writings, 1962-1994

This subseries comprises Hetty MacLise's writings, including manuscripts (poetry and prose), diaries, scrapbooks, notebooks, journals, and sketchbooks, which constitute both a record of her life and art and a prodigious project of self-documentation. These address periods of MacLise's life about which little has thus far been written––her childhood and adolescence in England, her travels in the 1950s and 1960s, and her return to Woodstock and eventually England in the late 1980s and early1990s where she remained until her death in 2011––as well as her intervening and better-documented time spent in New York, San Francisco, and Nepal. Many of the items are multimedia and comprise artwork, photographs, and ideas for various projects along with textual material, and the meticulously kept diaries, scrapbooks, and daybooks offer insight into her daily life.
