This collection contains photographs, printed and typescript papers, and other documents collected by Leslie O. Merrill in the course of his research on Greek Revival architecture in Syracuse, New York and minor historic preservation efforts. The collection also includes files of examples of Greek Revival architecture in other locations in the United States and Europe.
This collection is arranged in three series: Student Work, Professional Papers and Research Files. The files in the first series are arranged by date. The second series contains one item. The third series is arranged in alphabetical order by folder title. Materials, where possible are organized by geographic location.

Leslie O. Merrill attended the College of Fine Arts at Syracuse University, New York from 1939-1943, where he received his bachelor's degree in Interior Decoration. He was later employed as Director of the San Mateo County Historical Museum in California. Over several decades, he researched and surveyed Greek Revival architecture in Syracuse and its subsequent development including minor historic preservation efforts. In 1972, his photographic documentation was included in the exhibition "Greek Style in Syracuse Architecture / Greek Fashion in Syracuse Architecture" at the Everson Museum of Art in Syracuse, and also showed in several public lectures given by and with his colleague Harley J. McKee, architectural historian and Professor Emeritus at Syracuse University.
