This collection includes original and reprographic architectural, engineering, and interior decoration drawings for the New York Chamber of Commerce building at 65 Liberty Street in New York City. 225 drawings date from the original design and construction of the building in 1901-1902, and 206 date from alterations and additions in 1921. The remaining drawings relate to additonal minor alterations and repairs to the structure, some as late as 1976. A very small amount of correspondence is also included in this collection. There is one drawing by Charles William Clinton for an unidentified building, stamped 1883, that may document an earlier building occupied by the New York Chamber of Commerce.

Source of acquisition--The New York City Partnership deeded the archive records of the New York Chamber of Commerce and Industry to Columbia University Libraries in 2002. The materials were physically transferred to Columbia's possession in 2004. Subsequent additions were made in 2005 and 2006. The majority of Avery Library's holdings for the Chamber of Commerce building was a transfer to the Dept. of Drawings & Archives from Columbia's Rare Book and Manuscript Library, 2004.009. A small additional transfer of drawings and papers was made from the RBML to Avery Library in 2009.

The New York Chamber of Commerce building stands at 65 Liberty Street, New York City, on the site of the former Real Estate Exchange. The Beaux-Arts style building was designed by architect James Barnes Baker and built in 1901-1902, with later additions and alterations. It was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1977. The building housed a trust company banking room on the first floor, and a "Chamber of Commerce" numerous offices and meeting spaces, a clubroom, library, reading room and kitchen on the upper floors for use by the NYCC.
