Series IX: Battery Park City

The Battery Park City material, with the exception of the Agreement of Lease and copies of the 1973 West Side Highway report, was arranged in labeled file folders. Labels read: N-520 Battery Park City and include a topical subject term. These subject terms are transcribed below at the folder level. In the few instances where these terms have not been used, a note is included giving the wording of the original label. Dates have been added.

Correspondence, arranged chronologically, primarily to and from Battery Park City Authority staff. Majority of the letters are from William A. Halsey, Director of Architecture. Correspondents include Harrison & Abramovitz staff and the architects Jack Brown and Irving Gershon. File also contains 1978 Abramovitz-Harris-Kingsland Proposal for Professional Services in Connection with the Design of a Vertical Circulation Building at Battery Park City.

File consists chiefly of correspondence between Harrison & Abramovitz and the engineering firm, Farkas, Barron & Partners. Includes a 1974 letter of transmittal from Farkas, Barron to Harrison & Abramovitz, originally kept separately in a folder labeled: Farkas, Barron - Transmittals, 1974.

Undated (possibly 1966) typescript proposal, Battery Park City: New Living Space for New York City, a Proposal for Creating a Site for Residential and Business Facilities in Lower Manhattan. Includes A Message from Governor Nelson A. Rockefeller. One page handwritten commentary on the project's importance attached. Originally in file labeled: Publicity - Newspaper Clippings.


Box 23 Folder 15 to 16 Master Plan & Costs, 1966, 1968-1969, undated

Draft of the Master Plan Documents to be Attatched to Lease : Battery Park City, dated Jan. 28, 1969. Also, a draft of Transportation Elements of Battery Park City Development (undated, stamped: Received Jan. 24, 1969, Harrison & Abramovitz). Minutes of 1968 meeting of the Battery Park City Architects to review the master plan. Architects' 1968 report and memorandum on a proposal for containership terminal in Battery Park City. 1966 outline specifications for office building at 111 Wall Street. Correspondence, dated 1974, between the BPCA and the New York Chapter of the American Institute of Architects, regarding design development updates. Documents from a 1976 letter writing campaign in support of the West Side Highway Project, Westway. Abramovitz correspondence, 1975-1976, with a graduate student and a researcher.
