Series II: James Wines' Professional Papers

Series II includes records that were stored in James Wines' office at the SITE studio office. This series contains transcripts, correspondence, and material related to James Wines' academic work, which includes lectures, conferences and publications. This collection also includes materials related to Wines' teaching. The materials are arranged into 7 subseries which are roughly categorized by type of work: Subseries 1: Academic Administration, Subseries 2: Lectures, Subseries 3: Conferences, Subseries 4: Publication, Subseries 5: Essays, Subseries 6: Correspondence, Subseries 7: Project Press Releases and Reports. Subseries 1: Academic Administration and Subseries 6: Correspondence are arranged according to Wines' original order, while the remaining files were arranged during processing. As noted in the collection summary, materials related to project files that are housed in this series are done so to preserve the original order in which the documents were kept at the time of the collection's acquisition.

Subseries 1: Academic Administration

Includes administrative records related to James's teaching. It includes correspondences for institutional programs, applications and appointments. This collection includes materials related to James's appointment as a Professor of Architecture at University of Pennsylvania's School of Architecture and Urban Planning in and later dean of the school. Correspondences related to Wines' academic work are kept in this collection.

Subseries 2: Lectures

This collection of materials includes lecture invitations, announcements as well as lecture notes and transcripts for talks given by James between 1991 and 2004. This collection includes lectures given within academic institutions across the United States and Europe as well as materials from a European Lecture Tour in the spring of 1987 and the following summer.
