- The collection includes specification documents for approximately 170 architectural projects by Frank Lloyd Wright. Highlights include specifications for American System-Built houses (#1506), Imperial Hotel (#1509), San Marcos-in-the-Desert resort hotel (#2704), Fallingwater (#3502), Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum (#4305), H.C. Price Company tower (#5215), Lenkurt Electric Company (#5520), and Marin County Civic Center (#5746). Specification documents range from descriptions and instructions regarding the quality of work and materials to guidelines for plumbing, electricity, wood, metal,and painting work. Also included in the collection can be correspondence, contracts, structural calculations, licenses and subcontracts for design objects and furnishing.

The collection includes specification documents for approximately 170 projects. In the 1980s, the FLW Foundation gave each Wright project a job number, which we use in the archive to refer to the various projects. The specifications in this collection are arranged chronologically by project number. Specifications directly incorporated on design drawings are not represented in this collection (see Architectural Drawings ).
Specification documents range from descriptions and instructions regarding the quality of work and materials to guidelines for plumbing, electricity, wood, metal, and painting work. Also included in the collection can be correspondence, contracts, structural calculations, licenses and subcontracts for design objects and furnishing. Please note, these types of records may also appear in the correspondence collection.

Frank Lloyd Wright (1867-1959) was an American architect internationally recognized for his innovative building design, the Taliesin architecture school and fellowship, and his philosophy of "organic architecture."

You will receive an email from the department within 2-3 business days confirming your request and currently available appointment times. Requests are limited to 8 boxes per day (or equivalent), with a maximum of 5 boxes for off-site materials, 5 folders of drawings, or 5 rolls or tube boxes.
