Daniel R. Moses (1936-2022) worked as an editor in the publishing industry and was a lifelong activist for progressive causes. He was born in Brooklyn, New York and grew up in the Bronx; he graduated form the Bronx High School of Science, Cornell University, and attended Columbia University. Moses worked as an editor at Prenitce Hall, Simon & Schuster, Links Books, Boobs-Merrill, and Sierra Club Books.

Organizations he worked with include the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC), the New York Committee in Support of the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party, and the Green Party of California. He co-founded Publishers for Peace, and founded the labor organization Bookworkers, the Earth Island Press, as well as the imprint Three Mile Books, which published environmental and anti-nuclear power works.

After moving to California, Moses became in involved in many Bay Area progressive movements, including and ran for Lieutenant Governor in 1994 as the candidate for the California Green Party. He was on the Board of the Elmwood Institute and the Byrd Hoffman Foundation, founded by the theater and visual artist Robert Wilson.

Daniel R. Moses died at age 86 at his home in Ojai, California, survived by his wife, the author and activist Charlene Spretnak. A memorial, "Celebrating Danny Moses" was hosted by the Earth Island Institute.
