    <head>Biographical Note</head>
<p>Daniel Boone Dodson was born in 1918 in Portland Oregon, and received his B.A. from Reed College. After receiving that degree he enlisted in World War II, where he flew B-24 bombers. After the war, Dodson enrolled in Columbia University where he earned first an M.A. and then a Ph.D. in English literature.</p>  </bioghist>

    <head>Biographical Note</head>
<p>Professor Dodson, a specialist in drama and contemporary comparative literature, began teaching at Columbia in 1947. He retired in 1980, and was awarded the 1980 Bancroft Distinguished Retiring Professor Award.</p>  </bioghist>

    <head>Biographical Note</head>
<p>He was also a fiction writer who wrote six novels. The first of which, <title render="italic">The Man Who Ran Away,</title> was published in the late 1950s.</p>  </bioghist>

<p>Dodson died of liver failure in 1991.</p>  </bioghist>
