Biographical / Historical
Resident Officer responsible for Weissenburg and Eichstaett, Bavaria, from November 1948 through October 1949. During an earlier phase of the German Occupation, Marcu represented the U.S. Treasury in Frankfurt where he advised the Military Government on the dismantling of the German Industrial Cartels.

Correspondence, photographs, leaflets, pamphlets, manuals, reports and newsletters. Much of the correspondence details Marcu's efforts to persuade the American Military Government for Bavaria not to issue a weapons permit to a former Nazi who was seeking a position with the newly reconstituted police force.

The collection of printed materials is divided thematically into three parts: the first deals with the Nazi Regime, the second with the German Occupation, and the third with the refugee relief efforts in the Middle East.

Notable objects from the Nazi period include a certificate of Hitler Youth Membership, an award from the Brotherhood of German Artists, the war diary of a teen-age boy, and official military status reports issued in English by the German High Command in the period following D-Day.
