<p>Tom Mooney was sentenced to life imprisonment for the bombing in 1916 of San Francisco's Preparedness Day Parade.</p>  </bioghist>

<p>The collection was sent east by the Mooney Defense Committee in San Francisco and was turned over to Columbia University in May of 1942 by the New York Public Library as a gift of the Library and the American Civil Liberties Union.</p>  </custodhist>
