    <head>Biographical sketch</head>
<p>Petrov was an officer in the Imperial and White armies during World War I and the Civil War. He served in the so-called "Wild Division" (Dikai︠a︡ Divizii︠a︡) of Caucasian mountaineers during the World War. During the Civil War he was in White units in the Caucasus, the northern Caspian and Ural River regions, and the Crimea in 1918-20.</p>  </bioghist>
