    <head>Biographical sketch</head>
<p>Aleksandr L'vovich Bert'e-Delagard (Berthier-Delagarde; 1842-1917), Russian archaeologist, historian, numismatist, Engineer Major General. Researcher of Crimea, Vice-president of the Odessa Society of History and Antiquities (1899-1919), member of the Moscow Archaeological Society, Odessa Branch of the Russian Technical Society, corresponding member of the Imperial Archaeological Commission, Taurida Scientific Archive Commission. For a long time he was engaged in military and civil engineering. In 1887 he retired from the service and devoted himself to research of history, archeology, numismatics, architecture of Crimea. Participated in excavations of Chersonesos, investigated necropolis of Feodosia, Roman sanctuaries near Yalta, Suuk-Su and others. He was one of the first to use metrological data in the study of monetary systems. Built up some of the richest collections such as library of rare editions and books on Crimean subjects; collection of objects of Crimean Tatar everyday life; collection of Crimean coins and coins found in Crimea; collection of Crimean archaeological finds.</p>  </bioghist>
