<p>Collection is primarily comprised of reports and publications that Eells generated while the manager of public policy research at General Electric. The reports and studies reflect many of Eells's lifelong interests, including Charitable giving by corporations and the responsibility of corporations to promote social change and advancement.</p>  </scopecontent>

<p>Richard Eells was the manager of public policy research at General Electric and professor of business at Columbia University and director of the Columbia Business School's program for studies of the modern corporation.</p>  </bioghist>

    <head>Biographical Note</head>
<p>Eells was born in Cashmere, Washington in 1917 and received his BA at Whitman College before earning a MA at Princeton in 1942. He served in the Air Force during the Second World War, and then worked as the division chief for the Library of Congress aeronautics division from 1946-1950. He took the position of manager of public policy research at General Electric in 1952. In 1960 he started teaching in Columbia University's Business School in 1960. In 1964 he was named director of the Columbia Business School's program for studies of the modern corporation. He was deeply interested in corporate philanthropy and corporate social responsibility.</p>  </bioghist>
