<p>John M. Carrère (1858-1911) was a partner in the distinguished New York architectural firm of Carrère &amp; Hastings, which designed many private residences and public buildings, including the United States Senate and House Office Building in Washington, D.C. and the New York Public Library.</p>  </bioghist>

    <head>Biographical sketch</head>
<p>The sculptor Carl Augustus Herber was born in Stuttgart, Germany. After immigrating to America and attending the Art Institute of Chicago, he continued his studies in Paris. He was known primarily as a sculptor of monuments.</p>  </bioghist>
