Transferred from the Psychology Department and faculty of the Psychology Department in 1975 and 2013, as well as in undocumented accessions.
Collection is arranged as it was received from the department.
In 2022, archivists removed and destroyed purchase requisitions, receipts, budget transfers and detailed expenditure information, work study and student employee time sheets, and records of payment to teaching assistants, external speakers, and Barnard faculty without significant historical value (and often containing sensitive information) from the collection. Archivists also removed and destroyed reading or research materials for a course taught by Susan Riemer Sacks which consisted of clippings from widely available publications and widely available pamphlets and newsletters.

The collection contains correspondence and financial records regarding major renovation of department offices and facilities, as well as records relating to guest lecturers and faculty payroll; materials relating to faculty pay and the purchasing of instructional material; copies of the Barnard Journal of Psychology; and departmental data including registration information. Of particular note are surveys of students regarding their experience with the Department of Psychology and activiites after graduation. These surveys were conducted by current students under faculty supervision and were completed over a period of decades.
Permission to publish material from the collection must be requested from the Barnard College Archives. The Barnard College Archives approves permission to publish that which it physically owns; the responsibility to secure copyright permission rests with the patron.
