Arranged alphabetically by Theatre name, the collection is made up of over 700 theatre programs and Playbills; included are some of the most prominent productions in the New York area during the 20th century. Often included in the programs are seating charts for specific theatres.

This collection contains architectural drawings, and some supplementary archival materials, for buildings primarily designed or altered by Sylvan Bien alone or in partnership with his son, Robert L. Bien. Most of the projects represented in this collection are apartment buildings located in New York City, particularly on the Upper East Side, with some work in surrounding regions and states. In several cases, drawings by the original architect for buildings later altered or studied by Bien are also included in this collection. Lastly, a small group of drawings created by Robert Bien while with Eggers Group is also included.

Correspondence, manuscripts, documents, notes, photographs, transcripts of historical documents, and printed materials. Larson's correspondence consists of professional correspondence relating to historical research; his work at the United States National Archives, including correspondence with Philip Hamer while preparing a special survey of archival materials in the U.S. Virgin Islands under a Works Progress Administration grant, 1936-1937; genealogical research; and personal correspondence with family and friends. Manuscripts by Larson relate to Alexander Hamilton, Bjørnson, Bjørnstjerne, Danish National Archives, archival research in the U. S. Virgin Islands, and the U.S. Army activities in Korea and in the Virgin Islands.

This collection contains primarily correspondence related to Peisch's Ph.D. thesis on the work of Chicago architects associated with the Prairie School movement. Much of the material is about Walter Burley Griffin and Marion Mahony Griffin's work in the United States and Australia and includes letters from and about Marion Mahony Griffin, Francis Barry Byrne, William Gray Purcell, William L. Steele, and George Grant Elmslie. The collection also includes some photographs, clippings, lectures, and papers related to the later publication of Peisch's thesis in book form as "The Chicago School of Architecture: Early Followers of Sullivan and Wright" (New York : Random House, 1964). Lastly, the collection contains a small number of reference files, some gathered long after the completion of Peisch's thesis.

The Herschel Daniel "Dan" Carpenter Papers document Carpenter's life and career from his boyhood and education in rural Ohio, to his leadership role in the New York City settlement house movement. The collection also documents Hudson Guild, a West Side settlement house from its origins in the 1890s, when it organized clubs for Chelsea boys, to its work a century later, when it provided a wide range of social services to West Side residents.
