The collection consists primarily of correspondence, photographs, project records, architectural drawings, legal documents, periodicals, news clippings and exhibition materials. The material held in this collection relates to architectural projects for Edgar J. Kaufmann by Frank Lloyd Wright, and the bulk of the material relates to Kaufmann's home, Fallingwater, at Bear Run, Pennsylvania. The collection documents the professional and personal relationship between the Kaufmann family and Wright, from the 1930s until the years preceding Wright's death in 1959.

Edith Elmer Wood (1871-1945) was a US housing reformer. As lobbyist, writer, and government consultant, she helped define New Deal housing policy. After graduating from Smith College in 1890, she wrote fiction and undertook settlement house work before launching her influential, life-long career in housing reforms. The bulk of the collection is letters but other kinds of material is included, such as drawings, blueprints, manuscripts, maps, photographs, pamphlets, news clippings and hotel receipts.

This collection included primarily original and reprographic architectural drawings by Roth, circa 1907-circa 1949, largely of apartment buildings located in Manhattan and designed during the 1920s and 1930s. Represented are the San Remo Towers, The Beresford, The Oliver Cromwell, the Normandy, and numerous other apartment buildings. There are also drawings for several hotel and private residences. A two-volume typescript autobiography is also included.

Some projects on which Emery Roth & Sons acted as architect of record are not represented in this collection, most notably the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center.

This collection contains reprographic architectural drawings for the Empire State Building; photographs of the demolition of the original Waldorf-Astoria Hotel, which occupied the Fifth Avenue site; photographs of the Empire State Building under construction, circa 1930-1931 (one photograph shows former governor Alfred E. Smith standing in the building during construction), including 232 photographs by photographer Lewis Hine; photographs showing the building after completion, circa 1931-1956; scrapbooks of clippings of articles about the building, 1930-1957; and illustrations of the Empire State Building, circa 1930s-1960s. These subgroups of materials also have records in CLIO with more detailed descriptions of items; for these records, please search under "Empire State Building" or "Shreve, Lamb & Harmon" or "Hine, Lewis Wickes".

Evan J. Tudor furniture and interior design drawings and papers, 1908-1956

The collection includes mostly drawings for Tudor's furniture designs and are arranged by drawing number. Notable projects include the design of the Interchemical Corporation offices, in collaboration with Robert Meyer, as well as the Vanadium Corporation of America offices. The collection also includes 9 sketchbooks. Sketchbooks #1-7 and #9 consist of drawings made by Tudor while likely an apprentice. Sketchbook #8 contains drawings made while working for White, Allom & Co. Notable clients include "Dr. A", "R.G.L." The scrapbook contains clippings and photographs presumably from his professional practice as some of the photographs are labeled "E.J. Tudor." Notable projects include the Rolling Rock Club (Pennsylvania), Dixon House (unknown location), Hampton Court (England), Whitemarsh Hall (England), Mellon Institute (Pittsburgh) and Henry C. Frick (New York). Other papers include correspondence related to the design of the Interchemical Corporation offices, collected print material, 21 photo negatives depicting various travel sites and 13 color charts arranged by manufacturer. The collection also contains lantern slides, which were used by Tudor to teach interior design at New York University. The slides show architectural views and details particularly English, French and American designs as well as interior views, details and furniture.
