The Independent Citizen's Committee of the Arts, Sciences, and Professions (ICCASP) was founded in January 1945 as an lobbying organization that focused on New Deal causes, world peace, and social and economic justice issues. The organization was protective of the causes of the United Nations and against the tactics of the House Un-American Activities Committee.

Correspondence, manuscripts, notes, documents, course materials, organization files, photographs, and printed materials of John Herman Randall, Jr. Included among the cataloged correspondence are lengthy philosophical exchanges between Randall and Harry Elmer Barnes, Wendell T. Bush, John J. Coss, John Dewey, Irwin Edman, William Ernest Hocking, Corliss Lamont, Sterling P. Lamprecht, Arthur O. Lovejoy, Reinhold Niebuhr, Herbert W. Schneider, and Frederick J.E. Woodbridge, and in the uncataloged series, Horace Friess, James Gutmann, and Paul O. Kristeller. A separate series contains family correspondence consisting primarily of letters from Randall to his wife, Mercedes Irene Moritz Randall, during their courtship and early marriage. Randall's manuscripts include drafts of many of his articles and essays (a number of which became chapters in several of his books) as well as typescripts, proofs and related materials for many of his books, notably THE CAREER OF PHILOSOPHY, VOLUMES I-III, ARISTOTLE, THE MAKING OF THE MODERN MIND, NATURE AND HISTORICAL EXPERIENCE, PLATO, and THE ROLE OF KNOWLEDGE IN WESTERN RELIGION.

Correspondence, manuscripts, documents, memorabilia and printed materials. The correspondence deals with literary and political topics, from such people as Hayden Carruth, Irwin Edman, Lola Ridge and Norman Thomas; numerous manuscripts of Mrs. Marshall's writings, including the notes, drafts, manuscripts and proofs of her last novel THE HILL IS LEVEL and various manuscripts of the stories published in THE CONFRONTATION AND OTHER STORIES, and numerous manuscripts of poetry and short stories. Also included is material on the World War II draft of 19-year-olds, economic aid for Western Europe, the Vietnam War, the origin of SANE, the Committee for Nuclear Responsibility, the Amchitka Islands nuclear tests, the Task Force against Nuclear Pollution, and personal correspondence from her own and her husband's families
