Correspondence, manuscripts, documents, financial records, photographs, drawings, engravings, and printed materials of Benjamin. The personal and business papers concern Benjamin's publishing and bookselling company, his numerous benefactions, the disposal of his collections, and many printed catalogs for his company, 1883-1940. The two major correspondents are the business and financial records for the printing, binding, and extensive promotion through a network of agents of Stedman's A LIBRARY OF AMERICAN LITERATURE FROM THE EARLIEST SETTLEMENT TO THE PRESENT TIME; new ed. (New York, W.E. Benjamin, 1894). There are also letters, manuscripts, documents, and drawings of English literary figures collected by Benjamin. Among these are six letters of George Eliot, 47 letters and six manuscripts of John Ruskin, and three letters and one manuscript of Joseph Mallord Turner, with four letters relating to the artist. In addition there ten drawings and watercolors by Ruskin.

The collection consists of manuscripts, drawings and printed materials. The manuscripts include an album of drawings by Mushketov entitled "Istorii︠a︡ drevnego Smolenska" with an accompanying explanatory text, and a biography of Mushketov by N. Mushketova. There is an icon of St. Paul, a copy of a 15th century work from Novgorod apparently by M.A. Korsunskorpis.́ Printed materials consist mostly of clippings about Mushketov and his work.

Correspondence, manuscripts, drawings, watercolors, sketches, proofs, and printed materials. The collection includes original watercolor, pen-and-ink, and pencil illustrations for fifty books by various authors, beginning with Georges Duplaix's TOPSY TURVY CIRCUS (1940), and continuing with Golden Book's Scuffy the Tugboat & Tootles the Train by Gertrude Crampton; Duplaix's The Merry Shipwreck; Kipling's The Jungle Books, and the artist's dummy for The Wheel on the Chimney by Margaret Wise Brown, a Caldecott Honor book. Also included are illustrations for nineteen books by Gergely; advertising and commercial art of the 1940s, political cartoons and carricatures from the 1930s 1940s in Europe and America; designs for greeting cards, posters, and record jackets; and eighteen watercolor drawings for NEW YORKER covers, many of which were published in the 1940s. A selection of manuscripts, correspondence, and printed materials is also included in the collection.

Correspondence, manuscripts, documents, photographs, art work, audio cassette, printed materials by and about Thomas Merton. The correspondence covers the years from his study at Columbia to his death in Bangkok. Among the cataloged correspondence are: Daniel Berrigan, Mark Van Doren, Luis Somoza, Jacque Maritain, Aldous Huxley, James Laughlin, Robert Lax, Grover Cleveland Smith, John Howard Griffin, William Henry Shannon and Victoria Ocampo. The extensive manuscript collection was assembled primarily by Sister Thérèse Lentfoehr, Mark Van Doren, and Robert Shepherd. Among the more significant manuscripts are: corrected typescript of THE SEVEN STOREY MOUNTAIN; fragments of his NOVITIATE JOURNAL; notebooks and journals used in THE SIGN OF JONAS; numerous draft of poems; most of his lecture and conference notes which he used while serving as master of scholastics and, later, master of novices. There is an extensive collection of mimeographed articles, many inscribed to Sister Thérèse Lentfoehr; four watercolors by his father, Owen Merton, and many humorous and devotional drawings by Merton; many photographs of Merton, as well as photographs taken by Merton. There is an audio cassette of the radio play by Bruce Stewart entitled ME AND MY SHADOW, produced by the BBC in 1989. Included among the list of 37 cataloged correspondents are: Vera Brittain, Edward Gordon Craig, Clarence Darrow, Havelock Ellis, Augustus John, Emmeline Pankhurst, Edward Steichen, Gertrude Stein, Algernon Charles Swinburne, Sybil Thorndike, Alec Waugh, and H. G. Wells. The cataloged manuscripts include a poem by Witter Bynner entitled "Hay Wagon." There is a large selection of Stephen's writings (poetry, novels, plays, articles, biographies, memoirs) including drafts of a proposed biography of his father, a bound volume of his own memoirs, numerous notebooks, and "Mount Joy," a description of life on Dominica. His photographs and paintings are well represented, with 6 albums of photographs and 2 boxes & 1 folder of approximately 200 paintings and sketches. The printed material includes works by Stephen, his father and his mother.

Correspondence, manuscripts, photographs, art work, and printed material of and concerning Ronald Firbank. Included are nine letters from poet Alfred Douglas, seven from artist Albert Rutherston, four from Rollo Talboys, then schoolmaster at Wellington College, and forty-two letters from Firbank himself to his publisher Grant Richards and his manager George Wiggins. There are four letters from his mother, Lady Harriet, to the publisher and one letter from his father, Joseph Thomas Firbank, while serving in the House of Commons, 1897. Manuscripts include drafts and notebooks for his works: THE ARTIFICIAL PRINCESS, A DISCIPLINE FROM THE COUNTRY, THE RYTHUM, PRANCING N***, THE PRINCESS ZOUBAROFF, TRUE LOVE, and VAINGLORY. There is an inscribed photograph of Firbank from 1904; a pen-and-ink drawing by C.R.W. Nevinson used as a book illustration; and Albert Rutherston's watercolor drawing for the dust jacket of Firbank's novel, INCLINATIONS (London, 1916). There are also cataloged correspondence and manuscripts collected collected by Ifan Kyrle Fletcher for his book, RONALD FIRBANK; A MEMOIR.. (London, 1930).

Papers collected by Roman G. Mi︠a︡gkov, primarily concerning several Imperial military units, consisting of correspondence, documents, photographs, subject files, printed materials, money, and military memorabilia. There are photographs and picture postcards of the Imperial family, of soldiers (ca. 1890-1936), and of military reunions in exile. Units which turn up include the Caucasus Grenadiers Artillery Brigade, the Ninth Kiev Hussars, the Mikhaĭlov Artillery School, and the Tiflis Cadet Corps. Memorabilia include medals, ribbons, shoulder-boards, a red-blue-white Russian national flag, and guidons of the Ninth Kiev Hussars. There is also a painted icon (ca. 1920). Money includes an 1837 1 1/2 silver ruble piece, and a 1613-1913 Romanov commemorative coin, plus paper money.
