This collection includes nine letters of Ralph Waldo Emerson as well as letters of Louis Agassiz, Amos Bronson Alcott, Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr., Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, James Russell Lowell, John Lothrop Motley, Charles Sumner, and John Greenleaf Whittier. In addition, there are two incomplete manuscripts by Emerson and one document from the Liverpool Custom-house signed by Nathaniel Hawthorne as Consul for the United States. The collection also includes the corrected typescript, index, and page and galley proofs for Thomas Franklin Currier, A BIBLIOGRAPHY OF OLIVER WENDELL HOLMES (New York, 1953) which was edited by Professor Tilton. Also, some early correspondence and photographs of the Tilton family and friends. There are letters from the actors Annie Louise Ames, Richard J. Dillon, and Hans L. Meery to Tilton's grandfather, Bernard Paul Verne, as well as photographs, tintypes, and daguerreotypes of the Verne family and friends.

Correspondence, manuscripts, notes, and photographs of Kay, including files of correspondence from his student years to the time of his death, primarily on professional and academic matters; geological field notebooks, 1923-1975; manuscript materials for his book, STRATIGRAPHY AND LIFE HISTORY (written with E.H. Colbert); files on the Gander Conference, 1964-1970; manuscripts and typescripts of various lectures and articles; syllabi and various other academic files; and photographs and illustrations, primarily those used in STRATIGRAPHY AND LIFE HISTORY.

The collection includes correspondence, manuscripts, documents, photographs, and printed materials. Most of the correspondence dates from the 1950s and early 1960s, when Boi︠a︡rint︠s︡ev was head of the Ob'edinenie chinov Kornilovskago udarnago polka, an emigre veterans' organization, and relates to the affairs of this and similar groups. The manuscripts include campaign memoirs and a memoir called, "Epokha 1937-1965 gg." dealingwith events in the world of the White veteran's groups written by Boi︠a︡rint︠s︡ev; and a memoir of the First World War by a Captain I︠A︡. G. Shinin. Official documents relating to the military service of both Boi︠a︡rint︠s︡ev and Shinin are found in the collection, as well as some regimental and army orders of the Revolution-Civil War period. There is a photograph of Genral L.G. Kornilov; a large number of photographs of the White Army encampment at Gallipoli, of the Imperial family, White officers' reunions, funerals, dedication ceremonies etc. Printed materials include: a folder of printed engravings of varied content (portraits of the Imperial family, White officers, members of the White Russian community in Shanghai; and illustrations of various incidents in the Civil War; a complete set through 1965 of the emigre newsletter "Kornilovt︠s︡y" (Nos. 1-6; 1952_65); 7 issues of the "Vestnik pervopokhodnika" (Nos. 82-91; Aug. '68-May '70); and books, pamphlets, and jubilee volumes concerning Tsar Nicholas II, the White movement, General Kornilov, and the Mladorossy.

The papers consist of correspondence, manuscripts, documents, original art works, bibliographic notes and material on exhibitions. There are letters from Aleksandr Benois, Mikhail Chekhov, Fedor Komissarzhevskiĭ, Georgiĭ Lukomskiĭ, Nikolaĭ Medtner, Vladimir Nabokov and Aleksandra Tolstai︠a︡, and one letter each from Ivan Bunin, Mikhail Fokin, Tyrone Guthrie, Sok Hurok and Serge Kusevit︠s︡kiĭ. The manuscripts include essays by Dobuzhinskiĭ on such topics as the Mir Iskusstva group, Pushkin's illustrations, Aleksandr Blok, Kuzḿa Petrov-Vodkin and Josʹe-Maria Sert. There are original art works (pen and ink, goache, etc.) relating to his artistic and theatrical productions. Also included are photographs of Russian scenes, apparently from before World War I.

The collection consists of (1) A group of early materials written between 1903-1905, before Rank met Freud. This includes 4 daybooks, a notebook of dreams, a notebook of poems, the manuscripts of "Der Kunstler;" (2) Correspondence between Freud and Rank between 1906-1924, including the controversy over THE TRAUMA OF BIRTH. 40 a.l.s. from Freud and typed copies from Rank, with a few letters to and from Ferenczi (3) Copies and some originals of the circular letters by members of the inner circle, Ernest Jones, Abraham, Eitingon, Ferenczi, Rank and Freud, 1920-1924 (4) Original handwritten manuscripts, typed copies, notes and corrections of Rank's major works (5) Rank's own listing and comments on his writings and publications (to 1930) (6) Rank's published works--20 titles.

Personal and professional papers including correspondence, manuscripts, documents, diaries, journals, photographs, and printed materials relating to his teaching at various universities, his literary studies and writings, and his professional activities in such organizations as the Moder Language Association and P.E.N. His correspondents include contemporary authors such as Edmund Blunden, Christopher Hassall, Louis Kronenberger; scholars such as James P. Clifford, Leon Edel, and A.L. Rowse. There are also some letters collected by Halsband, including those by Mrs Piozzi, John Wilkes (1727-1797) and John Stuart, 3rd Earl of Bute (1713-1792). Among the manuscripts are notes, drafts, typescripts, and proofs of his LIFE OF LADY WORTLEY MONTAGU (Oxford, 1956) and COMPLETE LETTERS OF LADY MARY WORTLEY MONTAGU (Oxford, 1965-1967). Also, manuscripts and typescripts of Halsband's diaries, journals, lectures, articles, book reviews, and essays. in 1792-1793. There are documents relating to several members of the Beloselśkiĭ-Belozerskiĭ family. The part of the collection concerning the Horse Guards primarily relates to emigre activities in Europe and America during the 1930s. The materials include manuscripts for a history of the Guards, biographical sketches, minutes, newsletters, orders and several hundred photographs, many of which date back to the mid 19th century. Among the printed materials are journals, illustrations and a number of scrapbooks. The collection also contains several dozen oversized albums, illustrations, documents and photographs.

Correspondence, manuscripts, documents, photographs, subject files and printed materials of Simon Lissim. Among the correspondents are Aleksandr Benois, Mikhail Larionov, Georgiĭ Lukomskiĭ and Saveliĭ Sorin. There are many manuscripts by Lissim himself including the tests for a number of lectures and speeches, sections of his memoirs and essays on aesthectics. The documents include passports documenting his emigration from Russia to France and the United States, and several awards and certificates. There are many photographs of Lissim as well as dozens of photographic reproductions of his work, uncluding Lenox and Sèvres porcelain, textile designs, silver work and graphic arts. There are subjecxt files relating to two books for which he did the illustrations, and there are many folders of clippings documenting his career.
