The collection is composed of 66 letters from Haggard to various members of his family, primarily to his sister-in-law, Agnes Barber Haggard, who had been his secretary. There are nearly 250 letters addressed to Haggard, to Coulson Kernahan, and to others. Among the correspondents are: James Barrie, Hall Caine, Mrs Patrick Campbell, Joseph Chamberlain, Wilkie Collins, Marie Corelli, Austin Dobson, A. Conan Doyle, J.A. Froude, John Galsworthy, Edmund Gosse, Andrew Lang, C.J. Longman, J.E. Millais, William Morris, Ouida, Grant Richards, Rafael Sabatini, and John Tenniel. There are several manuscripts by Haggard and printed materials relating to him. There are 20 letters from Haggard to his oldest sister, Ella Green, and about 110 to his brother, Col. Andrew C.P. Haggard.

Letters to Fletcher, including four letters from Richard Hughes, and twenty-five from Dorothy Leigh Sayers, mostly about the Dante editions which she bought from the Fletchers; seven letters from Samuel Beckett; and letters from the Sitwell brothers primarily concerning items purchased from the Fletchers: Osbert, 142 letters and postcards concerning books purchased, and Sacheverell, 168 letters concerning music covers, engraved writing paper, costume and ballet drawings, etc. purchased as well as books. Also, twenty-one letters and post cards from Eric Gill, who designed and printed a wedding announcement for Mr. Fletcher; and eighteen letters from Will Ransom, dealing with American and English publishers and bookdealers.

The manuscripts include examples by Max Beerbohm, Arnold Bennett, Elizabeth Bowen, John Burroughs, Ivy Compton-Burnett, A.E. Coppard, Baron Corvo, Cecil Day Lewis, Ronald Firbank, E.M. Included are about 800 letters from outstanding literary figures of Mr. Conway's lifetime, manuscripts of his sermons, lectures and other writings and photostats of Conway material in Dickinson College Library. Letters, manuscripts, notes, proofs, course materials, and printed matter. The letters are chiefly from his colleagues at Columbia University, other literary critics, a few publishers and, single letters from several American authors. There is a series of lengthy letters from Chase to his wife, Frances Marie Walker Chase, dated 1938 and 1949-1961; letters from his colleagues and friends to Mrs Chase, 1962-1967, mostly letters of condolence on Chase's death, and a few related to his publications. The manuscripts and proofs of his writings include typescripts on Herman Melville and Walt Whitman. Also included are notes on American and Englisgh literature, course materials for his Columbia courses, articles and reviews by him, articles, reprints and reviews by others, most of which are inscribed to Chase, and three dozen volumes of his own works, including foreign translations. In addition, there are 250 volumes from Chase's library, many with his annotations and marginalia. 1984 ADDITION: Letters from friends dealing with the contemporary literary world between 1948-1955. The main body of material is from Robert Willard Flint, a sometime poet and critic, who was a graduate student at Columbia in 1946 and later worked at the Harvard Library. 1986 ADDITION: Letters to Richard Chase from colleagues in the literary world, 1948-1971, with 2 letters to his wife after his death. 114 of these letters are from Robert Flint, 25 from Lionel Trilling, and 3 letters from Robert Penn Warren

Various letters and manuscripts by and about Sir Osbert Sitwell (1892-1969), Dame Edith Sitwell (1887-1964), and Sir Sacheverell Sitwell (1897-). There are 2 notebooks which Dame Edith Sitwell inscribed to Siegfried Sassoon containing drafts of her poem "Gold Coast Customs" as well as numerous other drafts of prose and poems.

Correspondence from and to Wise. Many of the letters are from Sir John Murray and his son, John Grey Murray. Proofs and other material relating to Wise's A BIBLIOGRAPHY OF THE WRITINGS IN VERSE AND PROSE OF GEORGE GORDON NOEL, BARON BYRON are included.
