The annual Taliesin Festivals of Music and Dance began in 1957 after the compeltion of the Pavilion at Taliesin West. Performances were choregraphed by Iovanna Lloyd Wright and were performed to music composed by Olgivanna Lloyd Wright. The cast was made up of members of the Taliesin Fellowship. Early performances were heavily inspired by Georges Gurdjieff's exercises and dances. The collection consists of 20 years of audio recordings from the Taliesin Music and Dance Festival and other dance performances by the Taliesin Fellowship.

In addition, the archive contains journals, business records, draft manuscripts and typescripts of her poetry, novels, and important newspaper clippings reviewing her work.

The bulk of collection consists mostly of letters to a well known Russian ballet dancer and choreographer Leonide Massine (Leonid Fedorovich Miasin) from prominent Russian émigré dancers, composers, writers and artists, such as Alexandre Benois, Naum Gabo, Vernon Duke, Wassily Kandinsky, Serge Lifar, Nikolai Minskii, Evgenii Zamiatin and others. Also includes Massine's lecture, notes for various ballet productions, documents and financial matters. Related to several BAR collections: Dobuzhinsky Papers, Zamiatin Papers, and Shervashidze Papers.

From The History Makers website: Director and choreographer Louis Johnson was born on March 19, 1930, in Statesville, North Carolina, but moved with his parents to Washington, D.C., at an early age. Although Johnson became quickly known in the Washington, D.C., school system for his outstanding artistic talents, he also developed a strong following for his gymnastic and dancing talents. In high school, he enrolled and trained at the Jones Haywood School of Dance, where he and such notable students as Chita Rivera blossomed under the tutelage of Doris Jones and Clair Haywood.
