The Card Catalog is a negative 16mm. motion picture film of the Dictionary Card Catalog of Columbia University Libraries ca. 1938-1948. The film was meant to be a record copy of the catalog to be uded for reproducing it if it were ever mutilated or destroyed. Unfortunately, the quality of the film is so poor that it is unusable for reproduction. The films have been retained as a sample of the mid-twentieth century holdings of a large American academic library.

Correspondence, manuscripts and documents. Included among his personal and professional correspondence are letters from famous economists collected by Seligman. Among these are: I) William Shirley (Box 95). 1741-1745. Copies of letters and documents by Shirley, Royal Governor of Massachusetts, addressed chiefly to the Board of Trade, London; II) Paul Flobart (Box 96). RECHERCHES SUR LES BILLETS DE LA BANQUE DE LAW, 1716-1720. Lille, 1920. Notes, page proof and printed for of this pamphlet; III) John Francis Bray Papers (Box 97). Bray, 1809-1895, early socialist writer and labor agitator in England, 1822, returned to America in 1842. Michigan experiences, 1842-1896, papers 1860-1890; IV) Ernest Jones Papers. Correspondence, family and business papers of Ernest Jones, 1819-1869, English militant socialist and leader of the Chartist movement, and publisher of two newspapers propagating Marxist doctrines. Collection consists of ca.1,708 items, and some family correspondence and mementoes. The most valuable part appears to be his notes refuting various libel charges brought against him. A collection of ancient Greek and Roman coins formed by Columbia professor George N. Olcott (A.B. 1893; Ph.D. 1899). The coins are arranged in chronological order in two cabinets. A hand-written card catalog indexes and describes each coin. In 1958 the Library acquired a collection of squeezes of almost all the coins used in the ancient Greek city of Syracuse on the island of Sicily

This collection represents a partial set of the catalogs and records that Olcott used to organize and classify his collection of antiquities. He would assign each item acquired a catalog number and provide a description of the item and often a note of provenance or an indication of how much he paid for the item. Many of these records describe physical items held by the RBML as part of the Olcott coin, epigraphy, and Arrentine pottery collections.

This archive consists of manuscripts, business files, production materials, and correspondence from 1966 -2012. The journal Hanging Loose was first published in 1966 was preceded by the journal Things, begun by two Columbia College students Emmet Jarrett and Ron Schreiber, Hanging Loose Press founders. The most recent issue #101 was published in 2013. The press has also published books, mostly poetry. The selection process is collective and inclusive. Hanging Loose publishes high school students and has dedicated issues to literature written by prison inmates. HL published Hettie Jones, long-time Columbia-affiliated poet Paul Violi, Jack Agueros, Sherman Alexie, and Charles North, as well as many of the collective members. Denise Levertov is a former board member.

The collection contains correspondence with the authors, including contracts signed with authors as well as negotiations with the authors over various aspects of publishing their works; financial records documenting many aspects of the operation of Harper & Brothers, including royalties paid to authors, records of stock offerings and company reorganizations, and general ledgers which contain daily notes on all aspects of the operation of the business; book catalogues and trade lists; research materials collected by Eugene Exman for his history of Harper & Brothers; visual materials, from drawings and photographs of Harper's authors to colophon designs and an oil painting of the original Harper's building.

Files and records of Professor Cosenza, for his monumental work, BIOGRAPHICAL DICTIONARY OF THE ITALIAN HUMANISTS AND OF THE WORLD OF CLASSICAL SCHOLARSHIP IN ITALY, 1300-1800. Also, his notes on Petrarch, the Italian Renaissance, and the Italian Humanists.
