The correspondence and editorial files contain a wealth of detailed information about individual authors and the growth and development of the Press. The collection comprises the author's typescript of the short story "On for the Long Haul" that was submitted to, and later published by, Esquire magazine. The collection also contains some editorial correspondence related to the typescript, as well as the February 1985 issue of Esquire that contains the published story. This collection has been collected and assembled from numerous sources by the staff of the Rare Book & Manuscript Library.

A xerox copy of the book typescript of Book 4 in a projected series of nine volumes"The original theatre of the City of New York from the mid-sixties to the mid-seventies" which examines the culturally revolutionary growth of the American theater from 1963 to 1973 as a reflection of that decade's libertarian spirit. The typescript is divided into ten cardboard binders.

Correspondence, manuscripts, and documents gathered by Carpenter in writing his W.H. AUDEN: A BIOGRAPHY, including correspondence and recollections of Auden from friends and acquaintances, and the typescript of Carpenter's first draft of the book. Correspondents include Sir Cecil Beaton, Sir Isaiah Berlin, Christopher Isherwood, Sir Peter Pears, Frederick Prokosch, Sir Sacheverell Sitwell, and Stephen Spender.

Written drafts, process drawings, and proofs for some of his longer-form works, including the comic he's best known for, Minimum wage, as well as original comic strip art from his own collection. These papers are part of a larger project to collect representative materials from the New York City comics scene.

Correspondence and manuscripts of many authors who were asked to contribute to the proposed anthology, as well as letters from publishers to whom the project had been offered.
