This collection contains posters and publicity materials created by the communications office of Columbia's Graduate School of Architecture, Planning, and Preservation (GSAPP). The bulk of the collection is in Series I, which contains posters for GSAPP exhibitions and events such as lectures, discussion panels, end of year shows and film screenings. These have been arranged by decade. Series II contains copies of Newsline, a GSAPP newsletter publication from the 1990s. Series III contains publicity materials for the school's various academic programs.

This collection contains audio recordings for 186 different lectures, which have been digitized and are available online to Columbia affilates (and available to our public in our reading room). While the majority of the recordings are from the GSAPP Wednesday Night Lecture series, there are some recordings from other GSAPP sponosored symposiums, panels, and talks. The recordings are arranged in chronological order, with undated recording listed last. No paper records for this lecture series are included in this collection.

Architectural drawings and photographs of Litchfield's designs for Yorkship village (housing for ship workers during World War I near Camden, N.J.); Public Library, St. Paul, Minn.; memorial to Theodore Roosevelt at Oyster Bay, Long Island, N.Y.; 800 Park Avenue and other New York City apartment houses; Albany Post Office, Albany, N.Y. (designed by Gander, Gander & Gander, with Litchfield as consulting architect); and other projects.

Also, correspondence with Norman Bel Geddes, Monroe Biddle, John M. Blair, Harry T. Carman, Carolyn K. Christenson, Joseph S. Clarke, Jr., Thomas H. Creighton, Paul Cret, C.C. Cunningham, F.G. Fassett, Jr., Loring Dowst, John E. Harbeson, Oliver Hall, Jared C. Ingersoll, Gaylord P. Harnwell, William Fontaine Jones, Joseph Judge, William Lescaze, John D. Morse, William F. Paris, Charles E. Peterson, Ruth C. Roberts, Henry Shapiro, Oscar Stonorov, J.J. Sweeney, James M. Willcox, Owen J. Wister, Frank Lloyd Wright, Bruno Zevi, and others. This relates to proposed development of air rights over New York City's Pennsylvania Railroad Station, 1955; architectural projects in Pennsylvania relating to mental health, 1955; proposed new Independence Mall Building in Philadelphia, 1955; the 1954 Boston Art Festival Architectural Exhibit; sculpture committee on the design of the Ella Butt McManus monument, Connecticut, 1954-1955; the Philadelphia Saving Fund Society, building designed by Howe & Lescaze (with related memoranda, manuscripts of articles and talks, press releases, and architectural analyses), 1930-1939; and the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial, St. Louis (with related printed material, clippings, and photograph)

The bulk of the collection consists of historic photographs from early and mid-century architectural projects. Additionally, there are some office records, project files and architectural drawings.

Jock Pottle is a photographer of architectural models, active during the 1980s through early 2000s. The collection documents his practice photographing architectural models for large and small firms, for American as well as international projects. The collection contains only photographic materials, including photographs, negatives, transparencies, slides, and born-digital image files. The arrangement of the collection follows Pottle's system of organization by is arranged by project number, or by client or project name. A partial file listing has been created, but the collection is underprocessed.

Included are 60 photographs, approximately half of which show architectural drawings and models of the New York State Capitol at Albany, and views of the Capitol under construction, circa 1860s-1880s. These primarily show the work of Eidlitz, Richardson and Company, who designed the Capitol. Projects of Fuller and Laver and I. G. Perry for the Capitol are also depicted. The rest of the photographs show other projects by Leopold Eidlitz and his firm including the American Exchange Bank, New York City, 1857; Broadway Tabernacle, New York City, 1859; the Continental Bank, New York City, 1856; the Cooper Union, New York City, circa 1886; Dry Dock Savings Bank, New York City, 1875; and Temple Emanu-El, New York City, 1868. Also, unidentified buildings, and buildings by other architects, including Cyrus W. Eidlitz (Association of the Bar of New York, Main Library, New York City, 1895), and Robert H. Robertson (Phillips Presbyterian Church, New York City, 1874). Two original drawings by Eidlitz of Christ Church, St. Louis, Missouri, circa 1859, and a competition design for the New York City Crystal Palace, circa 1852.

The collection primarily consists of negatives, transparencies, prints of architectural models arranged chronological by project number.

This collection includes research materials, publication manuscripts, notes, correspondence, and architectural drawings related to the academic study, teaching, and writings of architect and urban historian Richard Plunz. The bulk of the collection contains research papers, administrative records, notes, and sketches, as well as reproductions of architectural drawings by other architects for various properties owned by the New York City Housing Authority, gathered by Plunz and his Urban Design Research Group students during their studies on the concept of "defensible space" in New York City public housing. Also included in this collection are notes and draft manuscripts for "Design and the Public Good" [Cambridge, Mass. : MIT Press, 1982], Plunz's compilation of writings by architect and educator Serge Chermayeff, as well as general research files about and correspondence with Chermayeff. Lastly, a small body of reproduced drawings documents various historic structures on Ellis Island, the 39th St. Ferry Terminal building in Manhattan and Fort Hamilton in Brooklyn.

The collection consists of pencil sketches and drawings by Romaldo Giurgola for three Michell/Guirgola Architects architectural projects. The three projects represented in this collection are Mission Park Residential Houses for Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts (1971), three schemes for The American Institute of Architects National Headquarters Building Competition in Washington, D.C.(1965-67), and The Sherman Fairchild Center for Life Sciences at Columbia University in New York City (1977).
