Included in this collection are two minor typescripts identified as being by Kot: "Memorandum sur la sauvegarde de la culture des pays soumis à la domination sovietique" and "Komunizovanie nauczania;" a brief typescript in English, with no author given, concerning Polish-American relations after the war; and biographical notes on Kot and on Jan Dabrowski, another Polish historian.

Three letters written in 1947-1948 by Washburn to Charles A. Bergerson. These letters concern the Root diplomatic mission to Russia in 1917, to which Washburn was attached as military aide. He discusses in particular detail a conversation he had with General Aleksei Brusilov during the Root mission. Also included are carbons of three letters from Bergerson, who had requested help from Washburn while doing research on the Root mission.

Stark Young's own manuscripts. The complete manuscript of IMMORTAL SHADOWS, 1948. Each of the 65 essays is in a separate folder and most are the manuscripts which were originally printed in THE NEW REPUBLIC and show Young's extensive revisions of his earlier work. The final typescript of his autobiography, THE PAVILION, 1951, as well as a loose-leaf notebook of early drafts and a typescript copy of several reviews of this book. A printed copy of his play ARTEMIS, 1942, and his notes concerning the originality of his authorship. Also, one letter from Young to a playwright.

Letters to John A. Millis from business firms regarding supplies, from government officials asking for progress reports, and from various people interested in the application of electricity to shore and lighthouse lighting.

At head of title: The Original Theatre of the City of New York From the Mid-'60s to the Mid-'70s. Book 4. A xerox copy of the book typescript of Book 4 in a projected series of nine volumes"The original theatre of the City of New York from the mid-sixties to the mid-seventies" which examines the culturally revolutionary growth of the American theater from 1963 to 1973 as a reflection of that decade's libertarian spirit. The typescript is divided into ten cardboard binders.

Correspondence and manuscripts of memoiristic and religious character, and news clippings. There is one letter each from Dmitrii Shakovskoi (Bishop Ioann of San Francisco) and Aleksandra Tolstaia.

Correspondence, manuscripts, documents, photographs, subject files and printed materials of Vostrotin. The correspondence dates from 1919 to 1942. The manuscripts are chiefly by Vostrotin, and primarily consist of memoirs. Among the subjects he treats in his memoirs are: the building of the Chinese-Eastern railroad, gold mining along the Eniseĭ River in Siberia, the creation of the North Sea route, various Siberian explorations, the Civil War in the Far East, and Russian emigration to the Far East, with reference to the Russian newspaper "Russkiĭ golos" in Harbin, of which Vostrotin was editor of the 1920's. There are a few documents and subject files relating to the same topics. The printed materials contain several dozen maps.

The first phase of the Bissette donation consists of 24 leaves from a 1902 print collection of R.F. Outcault's "Pore Lil' Mose" Sunday comic (1901), plus one leaf from a 1904 edition. This strip details the letters home of a young African-American boy on a trip to New York City, and features racial stereotypes and dialect.

Records of the Citizen Exchange Corps, a Soviet-American exchange program proposed and managed by Stephen D. James.

This collection of over 8,000 volumes, the bequest of Stephen Whitney Phoenix (1881), was the first major donation of rare books given to Columbia College. It was Mr. Phoenix's library and as such contains books on a variety of subjects. The collection is rich in nineteenth century illustrated books and books on travel, emblem books, geography, natural history, and literature, including a Shakespeare First Folio (1623). The collection is catalogued in the Dewey scheme with the letters "P" or "BP" preceding the call number. The books are found in the card catalog.
