These papers consist of correspondence, manuscripts, documents, art works, printed materials, and a photograph, and relate chiefly to Russian artists and ballet personalities active in France in the 1920s and 1930s. Records of the Parisian World of Art (Mir Iskusstva) group, of which Shervashidze was the president, includes correspondence, documents, an exhibit program, clippings and a photograph of the artists involved. There is correspondence from Lev Bakst, Ivan Bilibin, Sergei Diagilev, Mikhail Larionov, Georgii Lukomskii, and Joan Mirʹo, and one letter each from Nikolai Roerich, and Nataliia Goncharova. There are also many letters from Shervashidze's family in the Soviet Union from the 1920s and 1930s. Illustrative materials by Shervashidze include programs, prints and water colors.

The collection consists of memoirs, notes and photographs. The memoirs mostly concern Nosovich's service in the Imperial Army during World War I and military education in Russia. Notes contain explanations to his memoirs. Photographs mostly are of Nosovich: included among them is a photograph of Grand Prince Mikhail Aleksandrovich in a group picture.

This collection includes a short typed biography of Bert'e-Delagard (titled "Autobiographical note") with holograph edits; photographs of Bert'e-Delagard, his sister Sofiia L'vovna and Aleksandra Karlovna Barantsova; lists and photographs of ancient jewelry items found in the Greek cities on the shores of the Black and Azov seas from Bert'e-Delagard collection; architectural plans of Bert'e-Delagard house; 1918 issue of Izvestiia︡ Tavricheskoĭ Uchenoĭ Arkhivnoĭ Kommissiĭ dedicated to Bert'e-Delagard; publication of Bert'e-Delagard article "Proshloe Koreiza."

The collection includes correspondence, manuscripts, memoirs, diaries, notes, subject files, documents, photographs, and printed materials. Most of the material in the collection concerns Nikolaev's tenure as military attachʹe at the Russian embassy in Washington. Cataloged correspondents include Mikhail T. Florinsky and Geroid T. Robinson. There is a typescript by Vasiliĭ O. Kli︠u︡chevskiĭ, "Kratkoe posobie po russkoĭ istorii." Among the correspondence are cablegrams and official communications to the Russian embassy during World War I and the revolutionary period. Manuscripts, mostly by Nikolaev, concern contemporary and historical military topics. Diaries and memoirs deal with Nikolaev's travels to Europe during World War I and his activities as military attachʹe. Among orders granted to Nikolaev is the "Order of the Sacred Treasure," signed and sealed by the Japanese Emperor Meiji (1911). Printed materials include many articles by Nikolaev.

Correspondence and manuscripts of Volzhenskii. The correspondence dates from the 1920's and primarily concerns Red Cross affairs in Harbin and Japan. There is an untitled manuscript by an anonymous author concerning collectivization in the Saratov area, and there are reports discussing Red Cross activities during the Civil War in the Far East and the Crimea. Also included is a photograph and an engraving.

Typescript memoirs by A. M. Brofel'dt, entitled "Moi vospominaniia o sluzhbe v stavke verkhovnogo glavnokomanduiushchego: s avgusta 1916 goda po mart 1917 goda" (24 p.).

Manuscript and printed materials of Volkonskiĭ. The 22-page handwritten manuscript (unfinished) concerns the history of the Russian Orthodox Chruch. The printed materials consist of three volumes of Volkonskiĭ's book"Katolichestvo i svi︠a︡shchennoe predanie Vostoka" (Paris, 1933-1934). All three volumes are extensively annotated in Volkonskiĭ's hand.

Correspondence, manuscripts, a document, subject files and printed materials of Sack. The collection chiefly concerns American claims against Soviet Russia, and the currency of Estonia and other successor states. The collection contains a 1928 document signed by George F. Kennan. The manuscripts include essays and memoranda concerning currency exchange, tax laws and a number of American court cases involving financial affairs immediately after the 1917 revolution. There are subject files relating to diplomatic claims concerning debts, and the Soviet-Estonian peace conference of 1920. Among the printed materials are clippings and various American statutes and laws.

The collection consists primarily of Gasler's 26-part manuscript memoirs (ca. 1,350 p.), which discuss his family, his military career, World War I, the emigration in France, and interwar Latvia. The collection also includes Gasler's service record and passport, several postcards, and several clippings.

The collection consists mostly of Iskander's memoirs, including a typescript entitled "Videnii︠a︡ proshlogo" (457 p.), which discusses his years in Turkestan during the Civil War. There are also several notebooks containing other memoirs by Iskander. In addition, there are clippings about him, and several photographs, including one of Iskander's father.

In his manuscript ""Prisiazhnaia advokatura dorevoliutsionnoi Rossii i aivokstura SSSR" Kalishevskiĭ discusses the legal profession under both Tsarist and Soviet regimes.

Bound manuscript of Radishchev's "Puteshestvie iz Peterburga v Moskvu"; the title"Kniga prichinivshai︠a︡ neschastii" is used in this manuscript instead of the usual title. The manuscript is in an unknown contemporary hand. Appended is a note indicating its provenance: "Pod vysochaĭshim ego imperatorskogo velichestva pokrovitelśtvom rossiĭsko-amerikanskoĭ kompanii glavnogo pravlenii︠a︡, ot akt︠s︡ionera kollezhskoĭ sovet" [sic]. The manuscript is numbered as the 16th copy. The title page gives the date 1790, but it seems likely that this manuscript was actually prepared later, under Tsar Paul.

The collection contains correspondence, manuscripts, documents, photographs, and printed materials. The correspondence chiefly covers from the 1920s to the 1960s. Manuscripts include an extensive autobiography; a memoir about his work before World War I as a prosecutor in the Tbilisi region"Desi︠a︡t ́let sluzhby v prokurskom nadzore na Kavkaze;" and notes and manuscripts on many topics, including history and his years in Georgia and the emigration. Included are Rozhdestvenskiĭ's personal documents from both Russia and the emigration, and photographs of him and of members of emigre organizations. Among the printed materials are clippings and several early twentieth century political pamphlets.

The manuscripts include an outline, in 6 notebooks, of Shuberskiĭ's memoirs for 1875-1948; and, in 10 notebooks, notes on the reign of Nicholas II.

The author's name is given as Aleksandr Os., and the manuscript "Po lageriam i lesam Suomi" describes his experiences in the Soviet army and as a prisoner of war in Finland during the Second World War.

Typed copy of A. P. Balk's diary, with handwritten additions and corrections. The diary is entitled "Poslednie piat' dnei tsarskogo Petrograda (23-28 fevralia 1917 g.). Dnevnik poslednego Petrogradskogo Gradonachal'nika" (22 p.). This copy was apparently prepared by Balk while in Yugoslavia in 1923.

The collection consists primarily of manuscripts by Bragin, including his memoirs, which describe his military service during the Boxer Rebellion, the Russo-Japanese War, World War I, the 1917 Revolution and the Civil War. The documents and subject file relate to his service as head of the White military mission to Iran in 1920. Printed materials are largely clippings from and copies of emigre periodicals, with articles by Bragin.

The collection consists of 8 photographs of documents and 2 books. The documents, which include patents (gramoty) and decrees (ukazy), date from 1707-1812. There is also an almanac"Pami︠a︡tnai︠a︡ knizhka" dated 1855; and "Pami︠a︡tnai︠a︡ knizhka Lit︠s︡eĭstov za rubezhom" (Paris, 1929).

Correspondence consists chiefly of consolatory letters to his wife after his abduction; there are also letters to Kutepov from other White generals, such as Petr Wrangel and Pavel Shatilov. The financial records appear to be of the Military Union in 1924-29. Subject files concern such topics as Ataman Semenov and the Civil War in the Far East, the Civil War in the south, and the remnants of the White Army in Gallipoli and Bulgaria in 1921-22. Printed materials include emigre books and periodicals, a number of them concerning the Eurasian movement (evraziĭstvo).

The collection consists of correspondence, manuscripts, military reports and clippings. The majority of the collection consists of clippings from the emigre newspapers "Poslednie Novosti" and "Illi︠u︡strovannai︠a︡ Rossii︠a︡," and mostly contain Lukin's memoirs about his service in the Black Sea Fleet. The manuscripts are largely comprised of Lukin's memoirs and include a manuscript (20 p.) on the Krondstadt uprising, "Vo vlasti Kronshtadtskikh matrosov." There is also a manuscript (28 p.) by the widow of Admiral Viren entitled "O sobytii︠a︡kh v Kronshtadte."

Five bound volumes containing letters of Aleksandr Semenovich Kovalevskiĭ to his wife; to his eldest son, Mikhail; and letters by his children and by other persons. Most of the letters are from 1845-1846 and 1853-1860, many being from the time of his military service in the Crimean War. There are also a few items from the mid-1820s (a letter to A. S. Kovalevskiĭ, a few class notes). Four of the volumes are stamped"Perepiska moego ottsa s mamashei︠u︡..", the fifth "Pisḿa s 1855-1860 g." The volumes were bound by Mikhail Kovalevskiĭ.

Typescript memoirs (315 p.) that discuss in particular Gershelḿan's service in World War I, in the White army during the Civil War, and his life in the emigration in Europe. Also included are excerpts from the memoirs and writings of numerous other Russians.

This typed copy of Sannikov's memoirs cover his period of command in Odessa, from January to the White and Allied evacuation of Odessa in March 1919.

Correspondence, books with inscriptions, and research notes of Aleksandr Shteinberg. He was a Russian immigrant from Leningrad/St. Petersburg who befriended many Russian dissident poets such as Joseph Brodsky, Lev Losev, Aleksand Kushner, among others.

Letters to and about Aleksandr V. Krivosheĭn. Correspondence includes photocopies of letters to Krivosheĭn from Denikin, Wrangel, and representatives of the French and British governments, in 1919-1921. There are two biographical manuscripts about Krivosheĭn by his son, Kirill.

The collection includes correspondence, manuscripts, diaries (1941-1966), documents, printed materials, photographs, and appointment books (1925-1965). The bulk of the material concerns Kuskin's activities in emigration. Included is a copy of a treaty drawn up in 1921 among various anti-communist political groups in Turkey, including the Vseukrains'ka natsional'na Rada (All-Ukrainian National Rada) and the Krest'ianskaia narodnaia partiia (Peasant National Party), pledging cooperation against the Communists. Several of the family photographs in the collection pre-date the Revolution.

Mi︠a︡kin's memoirs discuss his journalistic career; acquaintances, including the Suvorins and the actress Nadezhda Plevit︠s︡kai︠a︡; the Civil War; the emigration, including the Union of Russian Writers and Journalists in Yugoslavia; horse racing in Russia; and his experiences as a displaced person in Austria after World War II.

The collection consists of correspondence, manuscripts, and printed materials. There are drafts of letters from Serapinin to the "Novoye Russkoye Slovo." The manuscripts include essays by Serapinin about the 1917 Revolution, the Orthodox Church, the emigre press, the Zhdanov Cossack Choir, and "Doctor Zhivago." There is also a book-length manuscript entitled "Vozdushnai︠a︡ gvardii︠a︡" which describes early Russian aviation with particular reference to Igor ́Sikorskiĭ. The printed material consists of a copy of "Pervye Shagi," a children's magazine.

Photocopies of 39 letters from Suvorov. The letters, which are in a bound volume, were written to various persons in 1788.

Manuscripts, chiefly memoirs, of Zenḱovskiĭ. In these manuscripts are discussed, in particular, Petr Stolypin; the Kiev zemstvo; the 1917 revolution; the Ukraine in 1918, including a zemstvo congress in Kiev; and the Civil War in 1919-1920, when Zenḱovskiĭ worked provisioning the White Army and civilians in the Crimea.

Letters primarily by relatives of Aleksandr V. Mali︠u︡ga. They were written in 1915-1931; there is one clipping from about 1945.

Typescript memoirs of Vozni︠u︡k-Burmin. The memoirs concern the activities of the NKVD in the late 1930's in the USSR. The first typescript (35 p.) is untitled and written under the name A Dneprovet︠s︡; it deals with events in the city of Dnepropetrovsk. The second typescript, entitled "Kak sozdai︠u︡t︠s︡i︠a︡ 'Sputniki'" (18 p.), discusses the NKVD's supervision of scientific research; it is written under the name A. Lunin.

Brief manuscripts on the Russo-Turkish war of 1877-1878 in the Caucasus region, on military discipline, and on gymnastics in the military.

Typed poems of Zlinchenko. Included are typed copies of four groups of poems: "Teni schasti︠́a︡" "Volnui︠u︡shchai︠a︡ taĭna" "Nesbyvshai︠a︡si︠a︡ mechta" and "Vzdokhi sveta." Also in the collection is a copy of Zlichenko's book.

Most of the materials are from the years after World War II, and concern the organizations with which Lampe was affiliated. There is correspondence from members of the Romanov family, especially Grand Prince Vladimir Kirillovich, and from Alekseĭ Arkhangelśkiĭ, Ivan Ilín, Vasiliĭ Orekhov, and others of Lampe's emigre military and monarchist colleagues. Photographs deal with such topics as the Romanov family, the Civil War, the emigration, World War II, and with Lampe himself. Besides the post-1945 materials in the collection, smaller groups of materials concern 18th and 19th century Russian military history (including a letter signed by General Aleksandr Suvorov), the interwar period, and ROVS in Germany during World War Il.

Correspondence, manuscripts, photographs, and printed materials of General Aleksiei Alekseevich Brusilov and his wife Nadezhda Vladimirovna. The correspondence is largely copies of their letters from 1914-1918 and her correspondence after his death. The manuscripts include part of his memoirs and several of her minor manuscripts, including an incomplete memoir. There are family photographs as well as photographs of Brusilov in military dress. Printed materials relate to Brusilov's career in the Imperial and Red armies and his rehabilitation by the Soviets in the Khrushchev era.

Papers of Aleksei Alekseevich Bobrinskoi include correspondence, manuscripts, documents, photographs, postcards and printed materials. Correspondence include five postcards addressed to A. A. Bobrinskoi. Manuscripts consist of typescripts of A. A. Bobrinskoi's writings, including bio and memoir piece about his father; his radio scripts, article and letter of protest. Among the documents there are materials relating to the reimbursement to British citizens for debts and losses contracted in Russia, Russkii Natsional'nyi Komitet v Londone, medical prescriptions, business cards. Photographs include pictures of Benckendorff and Dolgorukii family members. Printed materials include genealogy of the Bobrinskoi family, periodicals, flyers, poster, clippings.

The collection is composed almost exclusively of manuscripts submitted to Gering for publication in "Voennai︠a︡ Byl"́. These are mostly short memoirs of battles and campaigns, of life in military school, or of peacetime garrison life, by former tsarist officers. These naturally relate chiefly to the last few decades of the tsarist regime, and to the period of the Revolution and Civil War. Some contributions are more scholarly in tone; these include articles on the earlier history of the Russian army and of individual regiments, etc. Few of the manuscripts are more than 40 pages long; most are 1-20 pages. Not all of these manuscripts were published in "Voennai︠a︡ Byl"́; those that were not formed part of Gering's "archive" and have been arranged separately.

The collection consists of manuscripts and documents. It includes a manuscript (16 p.) by Litvinov on the Civil War in Kiev in 1918; and a handwritten autobiography (36 p.) by Aleksandr Narkizovich Litvinov, a colonel in the Imperial Guard Izmailov Regiment (Leĭb-Gvardiĭ Izmaĭlovskiĭ Polk). Documents mostly concern Litvinov family history and span the years 1794-1918. Cataloged materials consist of two documents signed by Alexander I (1802, 1808), and one signed by Nicholas I (1834).

The memoirs concern Smagin's experiences in the period 1917-1919; they were composed with the assistance of L.P. Dzhunkovskiĭ.

Papers of Zi︠a︡blov. Included is a copy of a letter from Moscow in 1919 by Zi︠a︡blov to his daughter, manuscripts, documents, photographs, and other miscellaneous items. Manuscripts include Zi︠a︡blov's travel diary of a trip from Moscow to the Black Sea and the Crimea in 1886, his memoirs, and lectures on engineering. The memoirs discuss his childhood and education (he graduated from Moskovskoe Tekhnicheskoe Uchilishche (Moscow Technical Institute)) in 1887; his work as a teacher and engineer; the 1905 revolution in Kolomna, where he was director of a machine works; and his continued engineering career through World War I and the early Soviet period. There are family photographs and photographs of unidentified groups, including Zi︠a︡blov, standing around locomotives. Also included is a pamphlet by Zi︠a︡blov"K voprosu o nemet︠s︡kom zasilí: Illi︠u︡strat︠s︡ii iz parovozostroĭtelńoĭ praktiki" (Petrograd, 1919).

Typed memoirs of Varzukevich. The memoirs cover the period from 1904 to 1914, during which Varzukevich's regiment was stationed in the Far East and then in Odessa and Yalta. Varzukevich describes the end of the war with Japan, revolutionary agitation in the armed forces in 1905-1906, and military life up to World War I.

Typescript memoirs (26 p.).

One letter, manuscripts, and printed materials of Aleksei Fedorovich Girs and of his wife, Liubov' Aleksandrovna Girs. The letter, dated 1914, when Girs was governor of Minsk, is addressed to N. A. Maklakov. Aleksei Gir's memoirs cover such topics as his service in Estland; Petr Stolypin; the "Jewish question;" Tsar Nicholas II; and independent Estonia, where he lived in 1918-1924. There are also two reports by Girs from the time of his service in Minsk. ́Liubov Girs is represented by diaries and memoirs from 1901-1918, particularly on Odessa in 1905-1906; Stolypin's murder in 1911; and Nizhny Novgorod in 1917.

The manuscript "Upravlenie vserossiiskoi imperii vo vremia byvshego verkhovnogo tainogo soveta s 1726 po 1730 god (iz podlinnykh del v Moskovskom [sic] gosudarstvennoi kollegii inostrannykh del khraniashchikhsia,sokrashchenno iz'iasnennoe Statskim Sovetnikom Alekseem Malinovskim" consists of copies of documents form 1726-1730, in various contemporary hands.

The collection consists of 26 scrapbooks of clippings, mostly concerning military and naval history and the Imperial family. There are issues of "Morskoĭ zhurnal" from 1930-39, and several books on military and naval history.

This collection includes approximately 75 stories, several collections of poems, and two novels by Pli︠u︡shkov; there are also about 25 essays by him on literary topics, and a brief autobiography. Photographs are chiefly of Pli︠u︡shkov and his wife. In addition, there is a photocopy of a document concerning the medical treatment given to Maksim Gorḱiĭ in 1887 by Pli︠u︡shkov's father after Gorḱiĭ attempted suicide.

The papers contain correspondence that dates from the 1950s to the 1970s, and concern emigre Cossack affairs as well as the career of Skrylov's son, Valerian. There are essays on the Kuban Cossacks, political events in 1964 and on the Cossack dictionary Skrylov was compiling. There is a photocopy of a 1948 cerificate Skrylov received from the "Soi︠u︡z pervago kubanskago pokhoda" in Munich. The cataloged photograph is of General Lavr Kornilov in 1916, shortly before his escape from a military hospital in Köszêg, Hungary, and there are photographs of both Skrylov and his son.

Typescript of "Za Rossiiu i svobodu," a novel by Alekseĭ K. Kori︠́a︡kov that concerns the Civil War. The novel was serialized in "Novoe Russkoe Slovo" (June-July 1968), with the author writing under the name Alekseĭ Kiri︠́a︡kov.
