A collection of letters and manuscripts of English and American authors, including one item from each of the following: Pearl S. Buck, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, Thomas De Quincey, Thomas Frognall Dibden, Charles Dickens, William Ewart Gladstone, Edmund Gosse, Hester Thackeray Ritchie Fuller, Rockwell Kent, Charles Kingsley, Edward George Bulwer Lytton, John Masefield, Clinton Scollard, William Wordsworth and Walt Whitman. In addition, there are 8 letters from Samuel Rogers (1763-1855) to Mr. and Mrs. Horace Twiss (Annie Sterky Greenwood Twiss), photographs of Alan and Margaret Kempner and miscellaneous Kempner items.

The collection comprises the archives of OROVUZ, and contains much correspondence, some manuscripts (chiefly constitutions of emigre organizations affiliated with OROVUZ; minutes of meetings of the governing bodies of OROVUZ itself); and some documents (membership lists and applications for membership). Included is correspondence exchanged by the officers of OROVUZ with the heads of the local branches of OROVUZ and of kindred organizations; with the League of Nations' refugee office; with potential employers of educated Russian refugees; and with unemployed and indigent members seeking assistance. Almost all the materials date from 1926-1932.

This collection includes a short typed biography of Bert'e-Delagard (titled "Autobiographical note") with holograph edits; photographs of Bert'e-Delagard, his sister Sofiia L'vovna and Aleksandra Karlovna Barantsova; lists and photographs of ancient jewelry items found in the Greek cities on the shores of the Black and Azov seas from Bert'e-Delagard collection; architectural plans of Bert'e-Delagard house; 1918 issue of Izvestiia︡ Tavricheskoĭ Uchenoĭ Arkhivnoĭ Kommissiĭ dedicated to Bert'e-Delagard; publication of Bert'e-Delagard article "Proshloe Koreiza."

Papers of General Alekseĭ Petrovich Arkhangelśkiĭ, consisting of correspondence, manuscripts, financial records, membership lists, photographs and miscellaneous printed materials. Most of the documents in the collection pertain to the activities of ROVS and its divisions and member organizations, especially its Fifth Section (Belgium), in the late 1920s and the 1930s and 1940s. The correspondence (1924-1954) is primarily between Arkhangelśkiĭ and other military officers, including A.I. Denikin, P.P.N. Krasnov, E.K. Miller, P.N. Wrangel, V.K. Vitkovskiĭ, I.A. Kholḿsen, P.A. Kusonskiĭ, P.K. Kondzerovskiĭ, E.S. Imnadze, etc. The manuscripts encompass official orders and pronouncements, information bulletins, speeches, announcements, manifestos, emigre military course instruction manuals and reports. Many of the latter deal with Soviet internal affairs and foreign policy. The collection also includes photographs, chiefly of White Army personnel in Yugoslavia in the early 1920s, miscellaneous printed materials, ROVS financial records for the period 1924-1926, various membership lists as well as 24 separate subject files, including materials on the founding of ROVS Fifth Section, ROVS activities in North America, Australia, and the Far East, the ROVS Court of Honor, the Russian Defense Corps (Russkiĭ Okhranyĭ Korpus) in Yugoslavia in World War II, the "Vnutrenni︠a︡i︠a︡ Linii︠a︡" and others.

Papers and correspondence including letters from leading intellectuals of the United States and Europe. Much of this correspondence pertains to the publication and critical discussion of his two influential works, MANHOOD OF HUMANITY : THE SCIENCE AND ART OF HUMAN ENGINEERING (1921) and SCIENCE AND SANITY : AN INTRODUCTION TO NON-ARISTOTELIAN SYSTEMS AND GENERAL SEMANTICS (1933).

Approximately 12,000 letters to Allan Nevins from various correspondents including James Truslow Adams, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Harry S. Truman, Willa Cather, Frances Folsom Cleveland, Van Wyck Brooks, Robert Frost, Newton D. Baker, Archibald MacLeish, John D. Rockefeller, Jr., Carl Sandburg, and Henry Wallace; notes and typescripts for Nevins' books including Emergence of Lincoln, The Ordeal of Democracy, Rockefeller, and History and Historians, with notes by editor Ray A. Billington; miscellaneous transcripts, clippings, newspapers, and photographs. Also, autograph letters and manuscripts by presidents, Civil War figures, financiers, politicians, and authors. There are also the Brand Whitlock World War I Diaries and letters to him by such people as Herbert Hoover, Gen. John J. Pershing, and others.

The collection includes correspondence, memoirs, organizational records, and printed materials. The correspondence -- which covers the 1923-1963 period -- concerns the activities of a number of emigre Cossack groups, scout groups and anti-Communist organizations throughout Europe, Canada and the United States. There is a two volume memoir written by P.P. Cherepanov, a member of the Tiflis Cadet Corps. The organizational records include accounts, membership lists, poems and songs, protocols and receipts, chiefly for the Tiflis Cadet Corps. Among the printed materials are issues of emigre and Cossack publications (such as "Bodrost,́" "Mikhaĭlovt︠s︡y" and "Rodimyĭ kraĭ") and ten folders of clippings about Cossack events and members. One of the scrapbooks contains guest lists of various events, clippings and photographs (including photographs from the filming of a 1920s production of "Khadzhi Murat"), while the other scrapbook has records of Cossack events and a number of original watercolors.

Correspondence files and financial papers. The files include correspondence, contracts, clippings and programs, ledgers and financial accounts, submission books, and calendars and memorandum books. Authors for whom there are extensive files include the following: Truman Capote; Patrick Dennis; John Dos Passos; Lloyd C. Douglas; John Hersey; Alice Tisdale Hobart; Paul Horgan; William Humphrey; Frances Parkinson Keyes; Margaret Mitchell; Alan Paton; Kenneth Roberts; Lillian Smith; John Steinbeck; George R. Stewart; Ben Ames Williams; and Kathleen Winsor

Papers, letters, memoranda, memorabilia, and manuscript music scores assembled by and related to the life and musical activities of Anton Seidl. The collection includes many letters from Cosima Wagner and her children addressed to Anton Seidl and his wife, the opera singer Auguste Kraus Seidl. There are also letters from Lilli Lehman, Edvard Grieg, Antonin Dvorak, Bronislaw Hubermann, Carl Goldmark, Maud Powell, Marianne Brandt, Felix Weingartner, Lyman Abbott, and many others. The letters are chiefly concerned with musical performances, composition, and related affairs. There are journals, diaries, and memoranda in Seidl's hand, as well as photographs and clippings relating to his conducting career. Also, twenty-seven manuscript scores of Seidl's orchestrations of various works.
