A. P. Watt & Son letters, 1883-1917 1 linear feet

A.P. Watt (Firm)

Mostly testimonial letters from satisfied clients of A.P. Watt, praising his services. Many of the letters were published in promotional brochures. Two of these books, COLLECTION OF LETTERS ADDRESSED TO A.P. WATT BY VARIOUS WRITERS (London, 1893) & LETTERS ADDRESSED TO A.P. WATT (London, 1894), are included in the collection. There were other editions published in 1889, 1898, 1899, 1924, 1929, etc.

Arthur and Rhoda Symons Correspondence and Manuscripts, 1884-1973 11 linear feet

Symons, Arthur, 1865-1945
Primarily consists of correspondence between the English author and literary critic Arthur Symons (1865-1945) and his wife, Rhoda Bowser Symons (1874?-1936). A small amount of the Symons' correspondence with others, Arthur Symons' manuscripts, and correspondence about the collection is also included.

Correspondence from clients about placing their work. Among the authors are: Michael Arlen, Nancy Astor, Beverley Nichols, Cecil Roberts, and Alec Waugh. There is also a typescript concert program for The Amphion Glee Club in 1907, signed by 58 members who were orthopedic surgeons.

Correspondence and manuscripts of many authors who were asked to contribute to the proposed anthology, as well as letters from publishers to whom the project had been offered. Among the cataloged correspondents are: John Ashbery, W.H. Auden, Lawrence Ferlinghetti, David Ignatow, W.S. Merwin, Ron Padgett, and May Sarton.

Max Nomad collection of political newspaper clippings, 1920-1951 24 linear feet

His information file of clippings, excerpts, and ephemera. Each item is carefully documented as to its place and date of publication. Many of these documentary markings are in a highly abbreviated form for which there is a key. The clippings are from such publications as THE AMERICAN MERCURY, ARBEITER-ZEITUNG, AVANTI, THE DAILY WORKER, THE HERALD TRIBUNE, L'HUMANITE, KOMMUNISTISCHE INTERNATIONALE, LE TEMPS, NEW MASSES, NEUER VORWAERTS, RABOTNIK, and many others. Much of the material is in various western European languages, but the majority is in English. The collection is arranged alphabetically by country and within these broad categories the material is either in a rough chronological arrangement or is grouped around specific topics. The clippings are not mounted but are placed loosely in a series of folders. Also included are two volumes of Nomad's essays entitled: THE ANARCHIST TRADITION AND OTHER ESSAYS; and, POST-MORTEMS AND POST-SCRIPTS. These anthologies of printed essays and photocopies of typescript essays were compiled by Nomad in 1967.
