Abstract Or Scope

Letters are primarily to White's mother, Alexina Black Mease White, his father, Richard Grant White, and his wife, Bessie Springs Smith White. The volume of White's letters from Mexico documents an extended trip he took with his elder brother, Richard Mansfield White, to prospect. Also included in the last volume is a letter to White from H. H. Richardson, dated February 22 1878, acknowledging White's resignation from Richardson's firm. Each original manuscript letter is followed by a typed transcription by Lawrence White, unless otherwise noted.

Scrapbook, 1929-1941, containing clippings about ALICE'S ADVENTURES IN WONDERLAND by Lewis Carroll and the Lewis Carroll centenary in 1932; and other unrelated clippings. Scrapbook, 1940-1952, containing correspondence, documents, and memorabilia dealing with Zanetti's World War II Army service with the Chemical Warfare Service in London. Among the correspondents are Omar N. Bradley, Nicholas Murray Butler, W. Averell Harriman, and the 9th Duke of Portland. Scrapbook, 1917-1940, containing correspondence, documents, and memorabilia dealing with Zanetti's World War I Army service with the Chemical Warfare Service in France and his later work with the Army Reserve; and his military medals, 1919-1945.

All of the material is concerned with the execution of drawings, etched and or engraved plates and woodcuts for Dibdin, perhaps in preparation for his BIBLIOGRAPHICAL ANTIQUARIAN AND PICTURESQUE TOUR IN FRANCE AND GERMANY (1821). Chief among the correspondents are the English engravers James Mitan, George Hollis, and Frederick C. Lewis.
