Christopher L. Morse (1935-) graduated from Union Theological Seminiary with an S.T.M in 1968 and a Ph.D. in 1976, and is a Presbyterian minister, Biblical scholar, and Dietrich Bonhoeffer Professor Emeritus at Union. This collection contains correspondence, research files, publications, administrative materials, and audio cassettes.
Edwin Oliver Kennedy was a Union Theological Seminary alum, pastor, and professor of practical theology. The collection contains correspondence and personal writings.
Emilie M. Townes is a womanist ethicist and an author and speaker on African American women and the church, specializing in themes such as the oppressive forces of race, sex, and sexuality in the church and society. She has held appointments at the Vanderbilt University Divinity School, the Yale Divinity School, and Union Theological Seminary. The collection contains addresses and sermons, publications, correspondence, coursework and teaching material, memorabilia, and other related materials that reflect her life, work, and thought as a womanist theologian.
Paul F. Knitter (b. 1939) was a UTS faculty member from 2007-present (emeritus), and is an author and theologian invested in pluralism and interfaith dialogue. The collection contains books and notes from his time in Germany and Rome, textual materials for courses by Knitter and about his travels, lectures, published and unpublished articles by Knitter, Vatican problematta, certificates and plaques, photographs, graphic materials, and audiovisual materials.
Paul Tillich (1886-1956) was a prominent theologian and professor at UTS from 1933-1955. The collection includes speeches, sermons, and other materials; a 1953 stenographic transcription in 4 copies of Tillich's lecture notes for his Spring 1953 course, Church History Systematic Theology 108-Introduction to the History of Christianity; a photocopy and a bound copy of Tillich's Systematic Theology [Vol.1], the preliminary draft meant for his students' private use, in five parts; as well as a separately sourced preliminary draft of Tillich's Systematic Theology [Vol.1] annotated by Eric Gault Finley.
