Correspondence, manuscripts, notes, research materials, microfilms, printed materials and books. Included among the correspondents are Eleanor Roosevelt, Henry A. Wallace, Norman Thomas, Wayne Morse, Reinhold Niebuhr and Franklin H. Giddings. Also included are the manuscript notes and research materials for Lehmann's book John Millar of Glasgow, 1735-1801 (1960); early drafts, notes and research materials for Henry Home, Lord Kames, and the Scottish Enlightenment (1971); and numerous papers and articles, many unpublished, dealing with the Scottish Enlightenment. The collection also includes some information relating to Lehmann's involvement in local and national politics, especially his participation in the Liberal Party and Americans for Democratic Action. A number of Lehmann's Scottish books, as well as his own writings are shelved at the end of the collection.

Cataloged letters from George Colman the Elder, English dramatist; Lord Jeffrey, Scottish judge and critic; Andrew Lang, Scottish author; Robert Montgomery, English poet; Richard Parsons Rosse,1st Earl of Rosse; George Thomson, friend of Robert Burns and music editor; Bernard De Voto, critic, and S.R. Crockett, Scottish author. Cataloged manuscripts by Thomas Campbell, Scottish poet, James Montgomery, and E.I. Powell. Cataloged diaries of June and Coleman O. Parsons of their trip around the world in 1936-37. There are also ca.700 pages of notes by Coleman O. Parsons on various Scottish authors(including Sir Walter Scott), Scottish folk-lore and history, and Scottish poetry. Most of the notes concern his research on Francis Colman, George Colman the Elder, and George Colman the Younger. In addition there is the mss. for his book "Studies in Eccentricity"; the mss. of an 18th century Scottish ghost story entitled "A Cool Dialogue between the Living and the Dead" and notes and essays on Mark Twain, as well as a poetry album kept by Elizabeth Saynor Marshall and photographs of Parsons in South Africa.

Eighteen letters of Sarah, Duchess of Marlborough, friend of Queen Anne, wife of the great English military commander, and ancestress of Sir Winston Churchill. The letters contain comments on the political events of the day, particularly the Jacobite cause, the building of Blenheim Palace, and family affairs. The letters were the subject of an article"The Duchess Speaks Her Mind" by Dallas Pratt in the "Columbia Library Columns" May 1965, pp. 27-42. There are also letters by Jonathan Swift, 13 May 1740; John Constable, 14 Dec. 1833 and 18 Dec. 1834; George W. Wales, 22 Jan. 1859; and a document signed by Louis XIV, 13 Oct. 1705. In addition, there are nine original photographs of Rupert Brooke, taken in London, 1913, by the American photographer Sherril Schell, as well as a photostatic copy of poems from the Rugby notebook of Rupert Brooke. Correspondence and professional files of Owen. Most of the materials in this collection relate to his activities at the UN. These include numerous documents and reports pertaining to the United Nations' technical assistance programs. Some of Owen's speeches and publications are also in the collection. The reports Owen received from Gunnar Myrdal and those concerning the private meetings of the Secretary General are especially interesting. A few of the people with whom Owen corresponded are Lady Astor, Clement Attlee, Chester Bowles, Sir Stafford Cripps, John Diefenbaker, Dag Hammarskjöld, Julian Huxley, B.H. Liddell Hart, Trygve Lie, Selwyn Lloyd, Gunnar Myrdal, Adlai Stevenson, and U Thant. Also, papers on regional planning and social services in Great Britain from 1938 to 1944, with emphasis on Scotland. There are manuscripts, manuscript notes, social surveys, government reports, and related correspondence on such topics as hospitals, housing, youth, and the aged. There is some correspondence regarding Owen's association with a private research group Political and Economic Planning (PEP). Among the Scotland files are Owen's manuscripts, notes, and related material for his Stevenson Lectures in Citizenship at the University of Glasgow, 1939-1944.

Manuscripts of 14 unpublished poems, the manuscript of "Glasgow Beasts" (1961), 32 of the 35 poems printed in "The Dancers Inherit the Party" (1969) with an additional "Orkney lyric" not included in the printed book, and one short story"The Boy and the guess" from "The Sea-bed" (ca. 1958). The poems are all from his "concrete poetry" period.

Correspondence, manuscripts, documents, photographs, memorabilia, and printed materials. The earliest document is Chalres Ludlow's appointment as a Midshipman in 1788, signed by President John Adams. There are also documents signed by U.S. President James Monroe and by New York Governors William L. Marcy and Thomas E. Dewey. The correspondence includes letter to Thomas Mackaness Ludlow Chrystie, 1841-1914, from Admiral David G. Farragut and Asa Bird Gardiner, of the Society of the Cincinnati, and his letterbook for 1896-1914. In Addition to Dr. Chrystie's medical practice and his personal life, some 25 pages in the letterbook are copies, in his hand, of letters from Captain Charles Ludlow, et al., aboard various ships in the U.S. Navy, 1801-1811. Papers of Thomas Ludlow Chrystie, 1872-1954 (Columbia A.B., 1892; Trustee, 1920-1926) include letters from Nicholas Murray Butler, Benjamin Cardozo, and Seth Low and manuscripts from his post as secretary for the Citizen's Committee on Reorganization of the New York Police Force, 1905-1906. There are 20 photographs relating to the Chrystie Family and Columbia University, including one of Dwight D. Eisenhower when President of Columbia. There are also 20 volumes from the Chrysties' libraries, notable among them are Thomas Ludlow Chrystie's law books, a number of Columbia University publications refering to the Chrysties, and family memorabilia.
