Professional papers of Morris relating to his researches into various aspects of American legal history. The correspondence consists primarily of material relating to publications Morris edited or proposed for the Legal History Committee of the American Historical Association. Also included in the collection are the notes, drafts, proofs, and memoranda of his writings, as well as correspondence pertaining to the activities of the American Historical Association and other learned societies.

Also, Dunning family correspondence and manuscripts, 1781-1915, including letters from Robert Kerr to W.A. Dunning; letters and post cards to Matilda A. Dunning; journals and diaries of William A. Dunning, 1873-1875 and undated, and Charlotte Dunning, 1899-1915; miscellaneous letters among family members; visiting cards; a composition written by Dunning while a boy; and letters relating to Dartmouth college. The collection also includes manuscript notes for lectures, articles, reviews, books, and chapters by Dunning. Correspondence between Beard and George S. Counts who was professor of education at Teacher's College, Columbia University from 1927 to 1974. The correspondence concerns their work on a Commission on Social Sciences in the Schools and comments on and reviews each other's writings and publications. Also includes correspondence to Paul Lewinson written by Beard, Ernst Correll, and Conyers Read dealing with a planned session at the American Historical Association meeting in 1939 which did not take place.

Correspondence, subject files, manuscripts and printed materials documenting the work of C. Martin Wilbur, George Sansom Professor Emeritus of Chinese History, Columbia University. Correspondence with non-Columbia organizations includes the Institute of Pacific Relations, Far Eastern Association, INDUSCO, Council on Foreign Relations, Asia Foundation, and American Council of Learned Societies, among others. Subject files relevant to Columbia University include items pertaining to the Department of Chinese and Japanese, later renamed the Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures, as well as teaching files, student files and research projects directed. The manuscript files contain the notes and, in some cases, printed copies of published and unpublished works and public talks. Wilbur's writings and research concentrate on the history and politics of twentieth century China, with emphasis on the Chinese Revolution, 1920-1929, Sun Yat-sen, and communism in China. There are translations of minutes for the first and second Kuomintang Congresses, copies of documents from the Kuomintang Archives, and photographs of members of the Young China Party, Sun Yat-sen and several historical events in the 1920s. Files on fund raising efforts for the Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures and the Wellington Koo Fellowship also contain relevant correspondence. Widely supported by the American European Intellectual communities, correspondents and contributors include Ruth Benedict, Franz Boas, Max Eastman, Felix Frankfurter, Carl J. Friedrich, Louis R. Gottschalk, Melville J. Herskovitz, Granville Hicks, Sidney Hook, John Maynard Keyes, Kenneth S. Latourette, Max Lerner, Bronislaw Malinowski, Karl Manheim, Margaret Mead, Paul Miliukov, Lewis Mumford, Joseph Needham, Frederick Law Olmstead, Henri Pirenne, Roscoe Pound, Edward Sapir, and Arthur M. Schlesinger. Note, however, that many of the more famous authors wrote only one article for the encyclopaedia, and their correspondence files are accordingly small.

Papers of Thorndike, consisting of correspondence, mansucripts, diaries, notes, photocopies of medieval scientific manuscripts, glass slides, books, pamphlets, and reprints. The correspondence relates to his scholarly research and publication in the field of the history of medieval science. Also, some family and personal correspondence. One half of the collection consists of photostatic copies of manuscripts Thorndike indexed in his major work, A CATALOGUE OF INCIPITS OF MEDIAEVAL SCIENTIFIC WRITINGS IN LATIN (1963), the first draft, final copy, galley proofs, related correspondence, and extensive card files of notes used in compiling the work. There is also a typescript of the 1937 edition. Thorndike's 76 volumes of personal diaries, 1902-1963, detail his daily activities, appointments, trips abroad, and lists of reading. In addition there are his other manuscripts for journal articles and book reviews.

Correspondence, manuscripts, documents, notes, photographs, transcripts of historical documents, and printed materials. Larson's correspondence consists of professional correspondence relating to historical research; his work at the United States National Archives, including correspondence with Philip Hamer while preparing a special survey of archival materials in the U.S. Virgin Islands under a Works Progress Administration grant, 1936-1937; genealogical research; and personal correspondence with family and friends. Manuscripts by Larson relate to Alexander Hamilton, Bjørnson, Bjørnstjerne, Danish National Archives, archival research in the U. S. Virgin Islands, and the U.S. Army activities in Korea and in the Virgin Islands.

This collection of correspondence and subject files details a variety of episodes and projects from the career of Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Eric Foner. Included are travel diaries from visits to Africa and the former Soviet Union, as well as correspondence related to Prof. Foner's work with the National Park Service and the Walt Disney Company in rewriting historical markers. It also features reviews and correspondence related to Foner's numerous published books, as well as his professional and scholarly career. It also contains research materials for Foner's major books.

The Bradley Commission on History in Schools Records contain the commission's administrative records and materials related to the process of creating and sharing guidelines for elementary and secondary school history education in the United States from 1982-1992. Many of these materials were created by Elaine Wrisley Reed, administrative director, Kenneth Jackson, chair, and the sixteen members of the commission. They include files related to the planning, staffing, and funding of the commission as well as correspondence and meeting minutes. The papers also contain surveys the commission drafted and distributed to teachers to collect data for the project. Teachers were surveyed on the history requirements at their school, the obstacles they faced, and recommendations to improve their field. The results of those surveys and the commission's conclusions are documented with drafts and final versions of two publications, as well as videos and other materials from two associated conferences.
