Correspondence files and financial papers. The files include correspondence, contracts, clippings and programs, ledgers and financial accounts, submission books, and calendars and memorandum books. Authors for whom there are extensive files include the following: Truman Capote; Patrick Dennis; John Dos Passos; Lloyd C. Douglas; John Hersey; Alice Tisdale Hobart; Paul Horgan; William Humphrey; Frances Parkinson Keyes; Margaret Mitchell; Alan Paton; Kenneth Roberts; Lillian Smith; John Steinbeck; George R. Stewart; Ben Ames Williams; and Kathleen Winsor

Mostly testimonial letters from satisfied clients of A.P. Watt, praising his services. Many of the letters were published in promotional brochures. Two of these books, COLLECTION OF LETTERS ADDRESSED TO A.P. WATT BY VARIOUS WRITERS (London, 1893) & LETTERS ADDRESSED TO A.P. WATT (London, 1894), are included in the collection. There were other editions published in 1889, 1898, 1899, 1924, 1929, etc.

These book manuscripts include the corrected typescripts of: "Analytical philosophy of action" (Cambridge University Press, 1973); "Analytical philosophy of knowledge" (Cambridge University Press, 1968); "Jean-Paul Sartre" (New York, Viking, 1974) with a.ms. & galley proofs; and "Nietzsche and morality" (New York, Macmillan, 1965).

Materials related to the Maine-Canada boundary controvery: over 400 letters, documents, reports, map, manuscript corrected proof of the Secretary of State's printed report to Congress, manuscript history of the controversy (published), lengthy analysis of the King of the Netherland's Decision as arbiter, as well as supporting material showing the life of a diplomat of the period in Europe.

This collection includes tape recordings and some phonograph records of the numerous conferences, seminars and other events held during 1953 to 1954 in celebration of Columbia University's 200th anniversary. In addition there are 31 tape reels of the CBS Radio Network's series "Man's Right to Knowledge." Also included are Bicentennial press releases, typescript and galley proofs with manuscript corrections for two volumes in the Columbia University Bicentennial Series: RESPONSIBLE FREEDOM IN THE AMERICAS and THE UNITY OF KNOWLEDGE.

The archives of the Conference of Eastern College Librarians (CECL), 1912-1971, containing correspondence, manuscripts, and typescripts of papers delivered at the Conferences, programs, financial records, and other materials relating to each year's session. The correspondence is chiefly that of the Director of Columbia University Libraries, where the annual conference was held, and other librarians associated with the Conference. The early history of the Conference is represented by photocopies of correspondence and programs of the New England College Librarians Meetings, from 1907, as well as the early years of the CECL, 1912-1920. This material was the basis of Harold Turner's history of the Conference's first fifty years: FIFTY CANDLES FOR THE EASTERN COLLEGE LIBRARIANS. Turner's typescript carbon, galley proof, and page proof are included along with correspondence with many Eastern College Librarians concerning the Conference's history.

Correspondence, notes, and proofs relating to the publication of VICTORIAN DETECTIVE FICTION compiled by Graham Greene, Eric Osborne, and Dorothy Craigie under the name of Dorothy Glover. Of primary interest is the correspondence from Graham Greene to Eric A. Osborne regarding the bibliography; also in Greene's hand are several notes and corrected galleys for the publication. There are also correspondence and notes by Osborne and Glover, and Greene's secretary Josephine Reid.
