Correspondence, manuscripts, typescripts, research files, documents, printed materials, photographs, and memorabilia of Mr and Mrs Hough. Correspondence includes both personal and business letters, dealing with wildlife conservation, civic interests, and birding. There is some correspondence of George A. Hough, Sr., father of H.B. Hough, who was editor of the New Bedford MA Standard. Most of the correspondence is arranged alphabetically, by personal name or subject, out-going and in-coming filed together. Henry and Elizabeth Hough's correspondence, for which there are no in-coming or related letters, are filed chronologically. Cataloged correspondents include Calvin Coolidge, Max Eastman, Helen Keller, John F. Kennedy, Emily Post, and James Reston.

Julius Caesar Claude Edelstein (1912-2005), served as advisor and executive assistant to military officials and political figures. His papers primarily encompass his job as executive assistant and chief of legislative staff to Senator Herbert H. Lehman during Lehman's senatorial years 1949-1956. Edelstein remained executive assistant to former senator Lehman from 1957-1960. Also included is material on the World War II draft of 19-year-olds, economic aid for Western Europe, the Vietnam War, the origin of SANE, the Committee for Nuclear Responsibility, the Amchitka Islands nuclear tests, the Task Force against Nuclear Pollution, and personal correspondence from her own and her husband's families

Autograph and typed letters from James Thomas Farrell to Schapiro, concerning Farrell's personal life, his writings, and current social and political affairs. There are also eight of Farrell's manuscripts from the 1960s. The long friendship of neighbors is seen in Farrell's personal letters about his private life and his family and in the discussions of whichever novel he was working on at the time. The main body of the correspondence is from the World War II period and shows much concern for current events in the Soviet Union as well as in the U.S. and Europe. The author also made a few forays into Irish humor, as in the use of his pseudonym, Jonathan Titelescu Fogarty. There are autograph drafts of Prof. Schapiro's replies to and notes about Farrell, and letters and post cards from Farrell's actress wife, Hortense Adler. Also, a letter from Frances Mitchell on her book, THE AWAKENING - LE REVEIL, 1950.

A group of literary manuscripts, including three letters written to Professor Robert Gorham Davis by Ezra Pound, the holograph draft by Dorothy Parker of her address delivered at the Esquire Magazine Symposium in October 1958, and two manuscripts of James T. Farrell, one containing holograph drafts of poems, and the other being a carbon copy typescript of various chapters from WHAT TIME COLLECTS. Also, approximately 65 letters from Ella Winter in the late 1930s, discussing politics, writing, and their social circle; approximately 25 letters from Laura Riding written in the late 1970s on language and, in particular, her book RATIONAL DEFINITION; and letters from James T. Farrell, Granville Hicks, Richard Rovere, and others.
