Copies of letters from Alexander II to Prince Aleksandr Ivanovich Bariatinskii, Russian viceroy in the Caucasus and boyhood friend of Alexander II. The letters are written in an unknown, but apparently contemporary hand, and are in a single letterbook (with typed copies).

Correspondence, manuscripts, documents and photographs of Count Eduard Ivanovich Totleben, Russian Fortification Engineer, General of Imperial Russian Army. The correspondence includes one letter from Tsar ́Alexander II, two from Dmitrii Alekseevich Miliutin, a draft of a letter Totleben sent to the Tsar, several invitations to official functions and a bound volume containing Totleben's letters to his wife written during the Crimean War. The manuscripts comprise nine volumes of Totleben's diary entries from the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-1878. Among the documents are diplomas and awards received by Totleben and a copy of his service record. There are several photographs of Totleben and other officers, including N. K. Shilder. Also included are the memoirs of Eduard Totleben's son, Nikolai Eduardovich Totleben, titled Vospominaniia Fligel'-Adiutanta. Al. Savelʹev's book Istoricheskīĭ ocherk Inzhenernago upravlenīi︠a︡ v Rossīi with author's inscription to ̇Eduard Ivanovich Totleben ("Ego siiatel'stvu Eduardu Ivanovichu Totlebenu. Gluboko priznatelʹnyi avtor") was removed from the collection and cataloged.

Documents and a letter collected by Elena A. Popandopulo: a 1728 Italian military commission signed by Salvator, Duke of Sforza; a 1729 petition signed by Aleksandr Stroganov; a blank sheet of official document paper from the time of Tsar Nicholas I; an 1861 Russian document; an 1879 document signed by Tsar Alexander II; and a 1906 letter to a Countess Ekaterina Aleksandrovna concerning an art exhibit in the Tauride Palace.

Collection includes documents granting Dlotovskiĭ promotions and decorations, some signed by Nicholas I, Alexander II, and Alexander II's Minister of War, Dmitriĭ A. Mili︠u︡tin. Also included are a history of the Cuirassier regiment by Dlotovskiĭ, and a memorandum he wrote on the possibility of setting up a Staff for Irregular Troops.

Correspondence, manuscripts and documents of Staal. Cataloged correspondence consists of a few items by Aleksandr Gorchakov and Philippe, Comte de Paris. There are many letters to Staal from Marie, Duchess of Wurtemberg, and Olga, Queen of Wurtemberg. There is a long series of drafts of letters by Staal to N.K. Giers, another high ranking Russian diplomat. Manuscripts consist of diplomatic reports, chiefly on Greece, Bulgaria, Turkey, Egypt and Russia in the 1870's. Documents include items signed by Tsar Alexander II and King George I of Greece, and Staal's personal financial records.

The collection consists of a letter signed by Alexander II, a document signed by Nicholas I, 2 letters to Alexander II by Shtrandtman, a proclamation to soldiers by Shtrandtman, and two orders. All items in this collection appear to be contemporary copies.

There are 69 letters from Count Leo Tolstoy, eighteen letters from Countess Tolstaia, eleven letters from Sergei Tolstoi (his son), 25 letters from his four daughters, Alexandra, Olga, Marya, and Tatiana, and one letter from Anna Konstantinovna Chertkova. The letters deal with such subjects as "What is art?", the "Resurrection" fund, Tolstoy's health, censorship, Ruskin, the banishment of the Dukhobors to Siberia, Tolstoy's doctrine of non-resistance, Jewish pogroms, famine in Russia, murder of Alexander II, etc. There are letters from the countess which reflect her feelings about the Chertkov's connection with Tolstoy and a letter from Sergei informing Maude that Tolstoy had left home to die, 1910. Subsequent letters deal with posthumous publications of Tolstoy's works.

Skobelev, his father (Dmitrii Ivanovich), and his grandfather (Ivan Nikitich), both of whom were also generals. These documents include edicts signed by Russian Tsars Paul I, Alexander I, Nicholas I, and Alexander II, and by two Kings of Prussia, Friedrich Wilhelm IV and Wilhelm I. There are also patents of nobility, military service records, and documents related to various military campaigns including maps. The correspondence primarily dates from 1870-1890 and consists mainly of letters received by Mikhail Skobelev and copies of letters which he wrote. Also included are incoming and outgoing letters of D. I. Skobelev. The manuscripts include essays, notes, drafts, memos on military affairs by M. D. Skobelev and other authors. There are subject files with materials about M. D. Skobelev, including printed materials such as newspapers and clippings. There are also files with materials related to activity of the Komitet imeni General-Ad'iutanta M. D. Skobeleva dlia vydachi posobii poteriavshim na voine sposobnost' k trudu voinam, and Osobaia Komissia dlia obsuzhdeniia voprosov ob ustroistve voennago upravleniia.
