This series contains three study notebooks written at different points by the three members of the Marsh family, as well as correspondence and notes dated 1978 between John M. Cox (then the seminary library archivist's assistant) and the Curator of Manuscripts at Harvard's Houghton Library, concerning the provenance of the manuscripts when they were uncovered in the Union Theological Seminary's vault in 1976. The first manuscript was written by Ebenezer Grant in 1795, and contains biographical and regional information on civic and religious leaders in New England. The Ebenezer Grant notebook is entitled, "Lists of the Governors, Lt. Governors, Counsellors/Judges and Members of Congress/ in New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut, as far as can be ascertained from the first settlement of the country. Likewise the names of all the Ministers in the same states – the times when they were ordained when they were dismissed or when they died and the times when the churches were first gathered. Compiled from various sources, by Eben.r G. Marsh, N Haven, Sep. 1795." The second volume consists of notes written by John Marsh the Younger entitled "Observations upon the Bible/Began June 1807/by John Marsh." The final notebook contains biographical entries of New England civic and religious leaders before and contemporaneous to John Marsh the Elder's time; this manuscript was likely written by Marsh the Elder.

This series contains numbered, handwritten sermons; the numbering system is not always complete. Gillett kept various groupings of sermons together, and gave some of the groupings volume numbers. The titles of the sermons as well as the location the sermon was given are often written onto the cover of the sermon booklets. This series also contains the sermons of Ezra's father, Ely H. Gillett.

This series contains one handwritten letter by William Carey, written in December 9, 1800, soon after Carey had relocated from Bengal to Serampore. The letter addresses an individual who Carey calls "My Dear Bro." The letter is difficult to read and is in some areas illegible.

This series contains diaries written by Pease, and three others penned by other members of his family including his mother, Persis Chapin Pease; his daughter, Sarah Ann Pease Wadsworth; and his wife, Lucinda Leonard Pease. The diaries give in great detail the life and experience of Pease in Cyprus, discussing events, other people, meteorological observations and everyday life as a missionary. Some diaries have poems, theatrical plays, sermons, letters, newspaper clippings, notes from his classes while at Auburn Theological Seminary and other ephemera pasted in the pages.

This series contains letters from Pease and his family during his time as a missionary, as well as from after his death. The first item in the series is a notebook which has handwritten transcripts of letters from Lorenzo Pease that he wrote to his friends and family while at sea. It also includes a few letters written after his arrival. Those noted in this notebook include Pease's parents, his brother Henry C. Pease, and his sisters Cordelia, Harriet, Laura, Catharine and Charlotte. The other correspondence includes individual letters to family and friends.

This series contains sermons, essays, notebooks, and research Pease hand-wrote while a missionary in Cyprus. The sermons and sermon sketches deal with a specific passage from the Bible, such as Job 11:7 or Matthew 26:41. The essays give a glimpse into missionary life during Pease's time. The notes and research involve a more in-depth look at the Cyprus that Pease knew through handdrawn maps and other information on topics such as politics, education and physical geography.

This series contains material related to the American Marathi Mission, the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions (ABCFM) first Protestant mission in Western India, founded in 1813. Materials were compiled in 1962 by Louise Gliem Fisher, who had worked as a public health nurse in the Satara District beginning in 1934, and include general background information and reports on various mission stations, as well as typescript material pulled together from minutes, reports, diaries, brochures, and correspondence.

This series contains 128 pages of correspondence retyped from the nineteenth-century originals. The majority of the collection is made up of correspondence, though there are parts of Leigh's journal entries scattered throughout, whether as individual documents or as quoted in his letters. In his letters, Leigh discusses religious life and the missionary progress being made in New South Wales, including Sydney and Windsor, and also expounds on the civilization of the natives such as their customs, traits, appearance, manners, and opinions. The difficulties and hardships that he and his colleagues had to endure are also enumerated. Leigh reflects upon his experience in New Zealand, especially with the natives and his first encounters on the Island, and his return to Australia due to ill health.

This series contains sermons and other writings of John Rogers Coe, including over 50 handwritten sermons that Coe delivered over the course of his short career. In addition to regular sermons, at least two were composed for a special occasion: one for a child's funeral, another for a Christmas service. The sermons include extensive revisions, such as new readings written in between lines, in the margins, or on strips of paper that have been sewn into place. Nine of the pamphlets contain small sheets of paper that outline the text of the sermon itself. Other writings include a small notebook of copied Biblical texts with added commentary ("Text Book") and a 74 page essay titled Critica Sacra, structured as a series of questions and answers on the subject of textual criticism of the Bible, which it defines as "all that learning which is employed in attempting to ascertain the genuine text of the O[ld]. and N[ew]. Testaments."

This series contains materials compiled by the Missionary Research Library that document mission work in North America during the 19th and 20th centuries, including material pertaining to Christianity, churches, and religion; committees and conferences; reports and bulletins; education; three-dimensional objects and photographs; and subject files.

This series contains two bound volumes of manuscript Biblical notes written while Smith was preaching in Warwick, Massachusetts in 1820.
