The papers comprise the correspondence of Agnes Kun (1915-1990), translator, and Antal Hidas (1899-1980), Hungarian poet, with prominent Russian poets and writers; Antal Hidas's memoirs; and manuscripts of translations from Hungarian and original poetry by famous Russian authors.
This collection consists of autograph signed letters, typed signed letters, postcards, telegrams, printed material, programs, newspaper clippings, and written public announcements pertaining to the Agudath Israel movement in America, Eretz Israel/Palestine, and Lithuania. Most materials are dated during the 1940s (wake of WWII). Most letters are addressed to Rabbi Aaron Ben Zion Shurin. The materials are mainly in Hebrew and English with some in Yiddish. Most materials concern the role of Orthodox Jewry in the wake of the Holocaust.
Two typescripts by Togan. The longer manuscript (88 p.) surveys the geography, ethnography, and history of Azerbaĭjan into the interwar period. The shorter (3 p.) discusses the derivation of the word "Azeri.".
Ainslie Embree (1921-2017) was a leading scholar of modern South Asian history and notable for his influence on the introduction of the field into United States university curricula. He was Professor of History at Columbia University and Director of the Southern Asia Institute. The collection contains material related to Embree's scholarly work, including teaching, research, and writing and publishing, as well as some personal materials.
The collection comprises a large Proof Album with multiple photographs (circa Spring 1955). This album contains several pages of proofs that were used in the Thunderbird 1955 yearbook. The proofs were also made available to the AF ROTC cadets to order photographs as indicated on the order page near the back of the album. Also, some snapshots and more formal photographs of peole in the Columbia Air Force ROTC.
This collection contains the papers and records of Sister Aisha al-Adawiya, co-founder and executive director of Women In Islam, Inc., documenting her various efforts relating to Islam, gender equity, conflict resolution, cross-cultural understanding, and social justice, as well as Muslim and Black community life in New York City, interfaith organizing for social justice causes in New York City, small scale Muslim women's publications (newsletters, magazines); and local and small scale Muslim newsletters across North America.
