184.31 linear feetThe materials that comprise the Historical Biographical Files have been collected and added to from a variety of sources over the years by current and previous staff. The files consist of materials related to people who have a connection to the University whether as student, alumni, administrator, faculty, staff, guest lecturer, or honorary degree recipient. Materials generally consist of newspaper and magazine clippings, press releases, programs, ephemera, printed matter, lists, reports, and pamphlets.

8 linear feetThis collection contains the Alumni News magazine's name files (A-Z). These "morgue" files contain newspaper clipplings, articles, press releases, book reviews, offprints, class reunion questionnaires, birth, marriage and death notices, change of address forms, some photographs and correspondence with the magazine, including submissions for the Class Notes section. The Alumni Federation included all Columbia schools: Columbia College but also Law, Physician and Surgeons, Journalism, Architecture, Pharmacy, etc. Files are organized alphabetically by the alum's last name and date from around 1919 to 1955.

10.5 linear feetThis collection contains approximately 5,500 photographic prints and 12,400 negatives taken and used by the Spectator. The photographs consist of black and white, silver gelatin prints and 35mm negatives. The bulk of the images are portraits, with many press photographs provided to the newspaper by outside sources. Not all prints have corresponding negatives. Photographs were filed together by name so that several views can be found in one folder. The original folder-level description was maintained.
