Abstract Or Scope: Correspondence, reports, pamphlets, and clippings of Norman. Among the subjects represented are health, population control, civil liberties, refugees, exiled governments and peoples of World War II, United Nations, education, delinquency, race relations, emerging nationalities, censorship, and foreign aid. Much of the correspondence in the collection centers around Mrs. Norman's column in THE NEW YORK POST in the 1940s. Organizations in the collection include Civil Liberties Union, Americans for Democratic Action, American Citizens Committee for Economic Aid Abroad, Women's City Club, American Emergency Food Committee for India, Urban League, Liberal Party, Citizens Union, Free Germany Movement, Free China Movement, and United World Federation. Also included are correspondence, manuscripts, research materials, and printed materials dealing with Norman's research and writing on India. There are two working manuscripts, one on India, the other on Nehru. Also, a fragmentary manuscript of her memoirs and the beginnings of a study of Alfred Stieglitz.

Matthews Papers contain the writings, correspondence, and personal papers of this American journalist, a correspondent and editorial writer for the New York Times from 1922 to 1967. Matthews' assignments spanned the world. As a journalist he covered the Italian invasion of Abyssinia in 1935 and 1936, Spain and the Spanish Civil War, Italy, India, Europe and World War II, postwar Europe, Latin America; as an editor he wrote about Vietnam, China, and Latin America.

Creator: Li, Zongren, 1891-1969
Abstract Or Scope: The Li Zongren papers consist of materials on the life and political career of Li Zongren dating from 1944-1951. The materials were given to the Chinese oral history project during the oral history interview with Li Zongren. The papers primarily documented the period when Li was the Acting President of the Republic of China from 1949 to 1951 in the U.S. urging for assistance to stabilize the internal conflicts in China.

Abstract Or Scope: The V. K. Wellington Koo papers document the diplomatic legacy of Wellington Koo as a Chinese statesman and diplomat of the 20th Century. The papers primarily consist of materials collected during Koo's diplomatic career, relating to the Lytton Commission, 1932-1933; the League of Nations, 1931-1940; the United Nations, 1944-1946; his ambassadorships to France, 1932-1941; to Britain, 1941-1946; to the United States, 1946-1956; as the Senior Advisor to the Republic of China from 1956; and as the Judge on the International Court of Justice, 1957-1966. The materials include correspondence, diaries, memoranda, manuscripts, documents, notes, speeches, maps, photographs, printed material, and audio visual material. The bulk of the materials emphasizes China's domestic and foreign affairs, such as the Sino-Japanese conflict, World War II and the Cold War in the Far East region, as well as the League of Nations and the United Nations.

Abstract Or Scope: Working files for the book SPECIAL ENVOY TO CHURCHILL AND STALIN, 1914-1946 by William Averell Harriman and Elie Abel, containing typescript drafts with handwritten corrections of Harriman's recollections; typescript notes; photocopies of American, British, and Soviet (in translation) diplomatic correspondence, memoranda, and reports; speeches and other writings by Harriman; and related background materials. The period covered is 1941-1946 and 1951-1954. Among the photocopies are letters from Franklin D. Roosevelt, Harry S. Truman, Edward Stettinius, Harry Hopkins, Dean Acheson, Charles Bohlen, Joseph Stalin, Vyacheslav Molotov, Andrei Vyshinsky, Winston Churchill, and Anthony Eden. Also, five letters from Harriman to Abel written in 1973-1974, concerning the details of writing this book (these are the only letters cataloged in this collection).
