Abstract Or Scope: The Adolph Oko collection of Spinoza materials contains correspondence surrounding the Domus Spinoza and Spinoza-related findings. Also included are Oko's personal notes on Spinoza, his collected Spinoza ephemera, and Spinoza-related clippings, as well as some of Oko's personal photographs, primarily of himself and Dr. Carl Gebhardt. It also contains the card files belonging to Oko, Gebhardt, and the Spinoza Bibliography.

Creator: Barnouw, Adriaan Jacob, 1877-1968
Abstract Or Scope: Correspondence, manuscripts, speeches, and articles of Barnouw. There is little correspondence in the collection and only a few manuscripts, but a large file of Barnouw's published articles and reviews is included in the papers. In addition, there are incomplete sets of two publications that Barnouw edited, WEEKLY REVIEW (1919-1921) and the NETHERLAND-AMERICA FOUNDATION MONTHLY LETTER (1924-1948, 1954-1961). Several old Dutch documents which had been collected by Barnouw are also in the collection. There is one folder of letters and documents relating to the Frisian Freedom movement during the later years of World War II. Also, Barnouw's manuscript of THE PAGEANT OF NETHERLANDS HISTORY transferred from Authors' Manuscripts Collection.

Creator: Neumann, Alfred, 1900-1968
Abstract Or Scope: Alfred Neumann (1900-1968) was a Czech architect with an international career. Most of his major projects were executed in Israel; his earlier work consisted mainly of private residences for Czech clients, as well as commercial and residential architecture undertaken with various firms or government bodies in Paris, Berlin, Algiers, and South Africa. Neumann devoted a substantial portion of his career to teaching and to research into architectural morphology, theories of proportion, polyhedral structures, and architectural space as pattern. He taught at both the Technion (Israel Institute of Technology) in Haifa, and the Université Laval in Quebec. He participated in CIAM (Congrès International d'Architecture Moderne), Groupe Espace, and other architectural groups throughout his career. This collection consists mainly of project drawings and photographs, personal and professional correspondence, Neumann's writings and research, papers related to Neumann's membership in CIAM, and publications related to his projects. The bulk of the material dates from Neumann's later career and concerns projects and research undertaken while Neumann was in Israel.

Abstract Or Scope: This collection contains the papers of Barry Ulanov, a jazz critic and professor of English at Barnard College. The bulk of the papers relates to Ulanov's Barnard years (1950-2000). Most of the material consists of book manuscripts, research files, course materials, and correspondence.

Abstract Or Scope: This collection of 3,933 volumes is formed from the union of the Spinoza collections of Adolph S. Oko and Carl Gebhardt, and contains material by and about Baruch Spinoza. Purchased and presented to the University by Dr. Simon L. Millner, Mrs. T.W. Lamont, Corliss Lamont, and Mr. E.A. Zabriskie, 1947.

Abstract Or Scope: Two account books for merchandise received, ca. 1721-33; Two 18th century copybooks of land surveys and deeds for lands held in Ulster Co.; a manuscript book with some poems written in Flemish; and Catharine Bevier Stillwell's manuscript book of recipes, ca. 1845. In addition there are books formerly owned by Bevier family members. These are chiefly Bibles, psalters and other protestant religious works in Flemish and French. Most of the books are in poor condition, having many torn and missing pages and almost all lacking title-pages. Their chief interest is the family autographs and other manuscript notes they contain. Included with the collection is a copy of Katherine Bevier's "The Bevier family : a history of the descendants of Louis Bevier." -- New York, Tobias A. Wright, 1916.

Abstract Or Scope: The Netherlands Missionary Society (Nederlands Zendeling Genootschap) was established in 1797 by the Netherlands Reformed Church and merged in 1951 with other Dutch missionary societies to form Board of Foreign Missions of the Netherlands Reformed Church (Raad voor de Zending Nederlandse Hervormde Kerk). Records include manuscript describing activities of the Society, indexes, and related correspondence.

Abstract Or Scope: Record Group 6 documents Asia Watch's (AW) three-branched program of documentation, campaigning, and lobbying in order to promote the observance of internationally recognized human rights norms throughout the region. Utilizing this paradigm, for example, AW tackled such difficult issues as economic aid and democratization efforts; the plight of political prisoners and refugees; the advancement of the freedom of expression, the suppression of political violence in Indonesia and Sri Lanka; and the effect of AIDS and prostitution on women. In the late 1990s, AW expanded its mission by seeking allies within the NGO and business communities in Europe and Japan in order to bring more direct pressure on human rights offenders.
