This collection consists of photographs, correspondence, event materials, fundraising records, calendars, publicity materials, programs, newsletters, interviews, and records related to a renovation project. It includes two photograph albums/scrapbooks containing mostly photographs, plus a few documents, with 61 black and white photographs of events at the Maison française, such as the visits of Edith Piaf, Jean-Paul Satre, Maurice Chevalier, Charles Boyer and Marcel Marceau.

Founded in 1913, the Maison française of Columbia University was the first French cultural center established on an American campus. Its mission is to promote interest in French and Francophone culture, history, literature, politics and society, to foster innovative scholarship, to enable exchange across disciplines and schools at Columbia and beyond, and to contribute to international and intercultural understanding.

All administrative records of the University are restricted for 25 years from the date of creation.
The following boxes are located off-site: Box 1 through 5. You will need to request this material from the Rare Book and Manuscript Library at least two business in advance to use the collection in the Rare Book and Manuscript Library reading room.
