The collection consists of personal correspondence between Isle Gropius and Clara or Arnold Brecht. The majority of the letters are in German and date from 1940 until 1974.

Biographical / historical:

Ise or Ilse Gropius (born Ilse Frank) was married to Walter Gropius, the German architect and founder of the Bauhaus School in Dessau, from 1923 until his death in 1969. The couple moved from Britain to Lincoln, Massachusetts in the spring 1937. They had one daughter, Ati Gropius.
