Cornelia A. Condict was a Presbyterian missionary and Corresponding Secretary for the Woman's Synodical Society for Foreign Missions in New Jersey. The collection contains manuscript diaries written while Condict was living in Richmond, Virginia, and while traveling in Japan, Korea, China, Singapore, and India, with contents chiefly related to mission work.

This collection contains manuscript diaries written while Condict was living in Richmond, Virginia, and while traveling in Japan, Korea, China, Singapore, and India, with contents chiefly related to mission work. This collection also contains provenance and bibliographic notes, and some correspondence.

Biographical / historical:

Cornelia A. Condict was born Cornelia Eames (or Emes) on April 11, 1835, and married Rev. Walter C. Condict (or Condit) in 1873, who had graduated from Princeton Seminary in 1867 and who was preaching in Newark, New Jersey in the early 1870s. In 1883 Cornelia addressed the Women's Missionary Society on the subject of India, and the next year she worked as Sabbath-school missionary and superintendent of the primary department of Central Presbyterian Church in Newark. In 1886 she traveled to India. In 1888 Walter passed away, and the next year Cornelia traveled to Singapore, and again to India in 1890. In 1901 she served as the Corresponding Secretary for the Woman's Synodical Society for Foreign Missions in New Jersey. She died on December 19, 1926 and is buried in the cemetery of First Presbyterian Church in Morristown, NJ.
