Subseries II.5.5. Project Aurora, 1984-1988

Scope and content:

contains records related to Project Aurora, a 6.5 million dollar grant from IBM that was administered by University Center for Computing Activities (CUCCA) to initiate a "campus-wide move in information and instruction toward the electronic university." IBM funded the purchase of a mainframe to support the libraries' information system, as well as approximately 30 research projects in schools and departments. The records include the project agreement, proposal, and the individual files on proposed research projects that were submitted for review by the Project Aurora Proposal Selection Committee.

Access and use

Parent restrictions:

All administrative records of the University are restricted for 25 years and all University Trustees' records are restricted for 50 years from the date of their creation. In addition, student records and other types of private records are restricted for a period of 75 years from the date of their creation.

This collection is located off-site. You will need to request this material at least three business days in advance to use the collection in the Rare Book and Manuscript Library reading room.

Parent terms of access:
Reproductions may be made for research purposes. Permission to publish material from the collection must be requested from the Manuscripts Curator and University Archivist, Rare Book and Manuscript Library (RBML). The RBML approves permission to publish that which it physically owns; the responsibility to secure copyright permission rests with the patron.
